The Trump Administration is seeking proposals to build $45 billion in detention centers for illegal aliens.
None will be built in Illinois, however, because of a 2019 law prohibiting companies from doing such in Illinois.
It was called the Private Detention Facility Moratorium Act and was signed by Governor JB Prizker.
That left detainees housed in the McHenry and Kankakee County Jails.
In 2022, Pritzker signed the Illinois Way Forward Act which prohibited local jails to extend contracts with ICE.
The result of those two laws are that any illegal aliens detained in Illinois have to be housed outside the state.
A brilliant strategy to keep friends, family and Illinois attorneys from person-to-person contact with those imprisoned.
The Chicago Sun-Times found a defender of illegals who recognized the resulting situation:
“It’s hard for family members to be able to visit, to deal with the emotional burden of a person who’s been ripped away from their home, not to mention, of course, the economic burden of a bread winner being taken away from the family.”
That’s how Tovia Siegel, director of organizing and leadership for the Chicago-based Resurrection Project, was quoted.
