Block Club Chicago featured an ide dreamed up by students at the University of Chicago, none of whom were alive when Chicago limited State Street to buses and pedestrians:
It didn’t save State Street and you will notice cars are now allowed there.
As I remember, it cost $10-12 million in the 1970’s to “improve” State Street and about the same to return it to its original configuration.
