From the McHenry Township Fire Protection District:

Fifteen Fire Departments Renders Assistance

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Thursday evening, the McHenry Township Fire Protection District (MTFPD) responded to a reported structure fire in the 2200 block of N. Ringwood Road in unincorporated McHenry County.

Crews arrived on the scene within four minutes to find a steel barn fully engulfed in flames.

Due to its proximity of approximately ten feet to a nearby residence, the heat from the fire had already begun melting the home’s vinyl siding.

The response was immediately upgraded to a Working Fire and then to a MABAS Box Alarm to secure additional water resources, as no fire hydrants were available in the immediate area.

MTFPD crews quickly deployed two hose lines to protect the residence while working to suppress the barn fire.

The blaze was brought under control within 15 minutes and fully extinguished approximately 45 minutes later.

Fire departments from Algonquin, Antioch, Cary, Crystal Lake, Fox Lake, Grayslake, Hebron, Nunda, Richmond, Round Lake, Salem Lakes, Spring Grove, Wauconda, Wonder Lake, and Woodstock assisted either on the scene or by covering other calls in the district.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries, and the residence remains habitable.

At this time, a damage estimate is not available, and MTFPD fire investigators are investigating the cause of the fire.
