Kane County GOP Demands Accountability, Highlights Election Integrity Concerns Over Suppressed Media Reporting
St. Charles, IL – The Kane County Republican Central Committee today raised serious concerns about the media’s handling of information related to the tragic death of a DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputy. The organization specifically criticized the delay in reporting by The Daily Chronicle of DeKalb County (part of the Shaw Local News Network) and underscored the broader implications for election integrity.
The case involves a March 28, 2024 crash in which a semi-truck driver, with prior unreported DUI convictions, caused the death of a deputy. The driver’s record, allegedly “masked” in violation of federal anti-masking laws by Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser, allowed him to continue driving commercially.
Despite these details being known since early 2024, Shaw Media withheld publication until after the November 5 General Election, raising concerns of election interference since Mosser was a candidate.
Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias has ordered an audit of Kane County, citing a
failure to prevent a dangerous driver from operating on Illinois roads.
Kane County GOP Chairman Andro Lerario expressed outrage at what he described as a deliberate media decision to suppress critical information during a pivotal election cycle:
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the deputy who lost their life in this tragic and avoidable incident. However, the real injustice lies in the media’s deliberate suppression of key information that voters had a right to know.
“By withholding details about this case until after the election, Shaw Media undermined the public’s ability to make informed decisions.”
Chairman Lerario emphasized the detrimental impact of such actions on election integrity:”
“Election integrity relies on transparency and trust.
“When a media outlet intentionally withholds information that could influence an election, it betrays its duty to the public and compromises the democratic process. “Voters deserve full access to information to ensure accountability from their elected officials.”
The Kane County GOP voiced its support for an impartial audit into the circumstances surrounding this case to determine what happened and ensure that justice is served.
“We fully support Secretary Giannoulias’s call for an unbiased audit to uncover the truth and restore faith in our institutions. The citizens of Kane County deserve accountability and assurance that such failures will not happen again,” Lerario stated.
