From State Rep. Jeff Keisher:

Rep. Keicher takes oath of office for 104th General Assembly

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Representative Jeff Keicher (R-Sycamore) and all 118 members of the Illinois House of Representatives gathered on Wednesday for the inauguration of the 104th General Assembly held at the Sangamon Auditorium on the campus of the University of Illinois Springfield, taking the oath of office for a new two-year term.

Keicher has represented Illinois’ 70th District since July 2018 serving portions of DeKalb County and Kane County, as well as portions of McHenry County since redistricting took effect in 2023.

“Illinois families deserve and expect a state government that reflects their families’ priorities,” Rep. Keicher said.

”For the last six years the majority in the Illinois General Assembly has been a rubber stamp for a partisan Governor’s agenda instead of working toward nonpartisan solutions to challenges like the cost of living in Illinois including housing, health care, public education, and raising a family.

“I am focused on problem-solving and results while continuing to provide the highest quality constituent services to area residents interacting with a state agency or program; and working to bring needed public policy changes to fruition in a collaborative spirit that seeks always to bring people together.”

The Illinois House of Representatives is comprised of 78 Democrats and 40 Republicans for the 2025-2026 term. Following the swearing in, Representative Chris Welch of Hillside was re-elected Speaker of the House and Representative Tony McCombie of Savanna was re-elected Minority Leader.

Representative Keicher has extensive volunteer experience in the community and on behalf of industry groups. In addition to boards and commissions, Jeff has held executive board positions with the Sycamore Chamber of Commerce, the Sycamore Public Library, the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) of Illinois and the Sycamore Rotary Club. He also spent many years serving on boards for the DeKalb Chapter of the American Red Cross, NAIFA Fox Valley, and the Kishwaukee YMCA.

A graduate of Northern Illinois University with over 25 years of professional experience in the insurance industry, Representative Keicher opened his own State Farm Insurance Agency in Sycamore in 2006, a successful and growing agency in DeKalb County serving the northern Illinois region.  Jeff resides in Sycamore with his wife, Karen, and their three children.

When I served in the Illinois House, the word inauguration was not used.

It was a simple swearing in ceremony on the House floor.

The change seems a bit pretentious.
