Harvard Airplane Crash

On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 1:20 p.m., the Harvard Fire Protection District was dispatched to the 22200 block of Airport Road for reports of an airplane crash involving a building and possible entrapment.

Upon arrival, firefighters located a small single-engine airplane on the backside of a hangar at the rear of the property, positioned nose down and leaking fuel.

Portions of the hangar sustained damage from the collision.

The pilot, an adult male, had self-extricated from the airplane prior to the arrival of emergency personnel and reported no injuries.

Firefighters worked to secure the scene and helped righting the aircraft to prevent additional fuel from leaking.

The crash is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
