Two-Vehicle Crash near Harvard

On Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., the Harvard Fire Protection District was dispatched to a report of a two-vehicle crash with entrapment at the intersection of Route 23 and Streit Road.

Firefighters arrived within five minutes and located the crash, which involved heavy damage to both vehicles, including one that had rolled over onto its roof.

All occupants had either freed themselves or required minor assistance from their vehicles.

The crash involved an adult female driver and her child in a small SUV, which had rolled over. The adult driver was evaluated by paramedics but declined further treatment. Her child was transported to Mercy Harvard Hospital with moderate injuries.

A teenage driver of the second vehicle, a sedan, was transported to Javon Bea Hospital—Riverside in Rockford with moderate injuries.

The roadway remained closed in both directions south of the intersection for approximately one hour while emergency crews worked to clear the scene.

The Harvard Fire Protection District appreciates the assistance from the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District, Marengo Fire & Rescue District, Capron Rescue Squad, and Mercyhealth MD-1 for their support at the scene.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash. Any additional questions regarding the investigation, including the cause and circumstances of the incident, should be directed to them.
