From candidate Mike Shorten, running for Nunda Township Supervisor:
Mike Shorten Calls Out Opponent Leda Drain for Refusing to Commit to Candidate Forum
Crystal Lake, IL – Mike Shorten, candidate for Nunda Township Supervisor, today called out incumbent Supervisor Leda Drain for refusing to commit to attending a candidate forum organized by the Nunda Township Republican Central Committee.
“Voters deserve to hear directly from the candidates about their plans and visions for our community,” said Mike Shorten.
“It’s disappointing that Leda Drain is unwilling to participate in this important forum. Her refusal to engage with voters raises serious questions about her commitment to transparency and accountability.”
Since taking office in 2020, Drain has made several controversial decisions, including hiring a family member and subsequently increasing their salary by 150%.
Additionally, in October, Drain proposed unprecedented salary increases of 25% for herself and other elected officials, trying to raise her own salary to $95,000, plus benefits, for a part time position.
Shorten has promised to make significant changes to the operations of the township to cut costs, cut taxes and reign in the out of control salaries of elected officials.
The candidate forum, which had been scheduled for February 20, 2025, was canceled after Drain refused to respond to multiple invitations.
“Transparency and open dialogue are fundamental to a healthy democracy,” Shorten continued.
“I am committed to being accessible and accountable to the voters, and I hope Republican voters will turn out and ‘Remove the Drain’ on their tax dollars.”
