From State Rep. Marty McLaughlin, who is seeking to be named the replacement for retiring State Senator Dan McConchie:

Rep. McLaughlin calls for formation of bipartisan Illinois Government Efficiency Caucus

LAKE BARRINGTON… State Representative Martin McLaughlin (R-52nd District) is calling on the 104th Illinois General Assembly to establish the Illinois Government Efficiency Caucus (IGEC)—a bipartisan initiative aimed at eliminating wasteful spending and demanding greater accountability in state government.

“I urge all legislators and state party officeholders to join me in this critical effort,” said McLaughlin.

“With the governor acknowledging a $3 billion budget shortfall, the City of Chicago underestimating costs by at least $1 billion, and transportation agencies requesting billions more, Illinois taxpayers are once again being asked to foot the bill for government mismanagement.

Now is the time to hold every piece of legislation—and every legislator—accountable to the people we serve.”

“Even a cursory review of the state budget and audits reveals millions in potential savings—funds that could be redirected to essential services if legislators stopped treating taxpayer dollars as a personal slush fund.

“The reckless spending habits of elected officials have real consequences, and the burden falls on hardworking Illinois families.”

“I speak from experience—not only as a business leader in the private sector but also as a former mayor who reduced spending by 24% over eight years.

“Fiscal responsibility is possible.

“It just takes the will to do it.

“Illinois must follow the lead of 13 other states that have established spending reform and monitoring organizations.

“We must do more with less, prioritizing our citizens, schools, and public safety.”

“The Illinois Government Efficiency Caucus will work toward cutting up to 15% from the 2025 budget, reducing waste, and stopping the inflationary cycle that continues to drive up costs for everyone

“This is a call for efficiency, accountability, and common sense.

“The time for action is now.”
