Jose Zuniga-Olivas Sentenced to Eighteen Years for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance
The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office announces that Jose Zuniga-Olivas, 55, of Rockford, Illinois, was sentenced to eighteen years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
The sentence was handed down on February 18, 2025, by the Honorable Tiffany Davis, after Zuniga-Olivas entered a negotiated plea of guilty to one count of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, a class one felony.
On August 2, 2023, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that Zuniga-Olivas was traveling in.
A McHenry County Sheriff’s K-9 alerted on the vehicle indicating the presence of narcotics, and a search of the vehicle resulted in deputies finding approximately three kilograms of heroin.
Throughout the course of the investigation, it was discovered that Zuniga-Olivas had planned on delivering the heroin in Crystal Lake.
