LeFew Recommends Shepley or Tryon To Take His Place

When McHenry County Republican Party Chairman and McHenry County Treasurer Bill LeFew spoke at his fund raiser on Thursday night he said that he was going to resign in the near future.

As soon as he was asked by the Illinois Attorney General for evidence in an investigation that McHenry County State’s Attorney Lou Bianchi being conducted by that state official.

Northwest Herald reporter Jocelyn Allison called the Attorney General’s office and guess what?

“..a spokeswoman for the AG’s office said as of Friday no complaint had been received.”

So far, then, the reason LeFew gave for resigning—being put in conflict between his duty as a public official to produce copies of checks or other documents and his duty as county GOP chairman to support Republican office holders—doesn’t exist yet.

Indeed, I cannot understand why any conflict would exist.

For months, LeFew has been stabbing his fellow Republican office holder in the back, while promoting any number of alternatives.

At the fund raiser, LeFew mention to possibilities to succeed him.

One was Crystal Lake Mayor Aaron Shepley.

The other was State Rep. Mike Tryon.

Of course, Shepley was wounded politically on a countywide basis by his adamant support of McHenry County’s controversial baseball stadium.

I don’t know if that is the reason that LeFew decided to throw his support to Tryon on Friday, but it could be.

While the Northwest Herald has banned comments on two articles about LeFew’s resignation, the powers that be did not turn off the comments on the Tryon endorsement article yet.

Someone with the moniker of “branded” wrote,

“Hey Lefew, thanks for the blue and red (Republican colored) pen that I received for FREE at the treasurer’s office with your name WILLIAM LEFEW MCHENRY COUNTY TREASURER on it when I went to pay my taxes!

Who paid for all those pens with your name on them in YOUR parties’ colors?

Joe taxpayer or your campaign fund?

Good luck with your support of Dan Regna. You two hypocrites deserve each other.”

One of the charges made against Bianchi was that he used county money to buy candy to hand out at parades. I’ll bet he didn’t used county money to pay for the big sign with his name on it.
