Walsh on “No” Vote on Lifting Debt Ceiling

A press release from Joe Walsh:

Rep. Walsh Issues Statement on His Vote against Reid Plan to Raise the Debt Ceiling

“The only plan to receive bi-partisan support is the Cut, Cap, and Balance Plan.”

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Joe Walsh (IL-08) voted against Mr. Reid’s plan to raise the debt ceiling. It failed in the House of Representatives by a vote of 173 to 246.

Of his vote, Walsh stated, “The House of Representatives has passed two bills to address the debt ceiling already, and still the Senate has done nothing. The Reid plan, with its $1trillion in imaginary savings and a $2.4 trillion blind increase in the debt ceiling, is a non-starter with the American people. In fact, it’s even a non-starter with Mr. Reid’s fellow Senators, as the Senate hasn’t even voted on it, let alone passed it.”

“The only plan to receive bi-partisan support is the Cut, Cap, and Balance Plan. It is on the only plan that will tackle Washington’s reckless spending habits and ensure the continued growth and success of our great country. And the credit rating agencies have made it clear that it is the only plan that will preserve America’s AAA credit rating. If Mr. Reid and the President were at all serious about preventing default and an economic crisis, then they would have voted on, passed, and signed the Cut, Cap, and Balance Act.”

  1. LET’S HAVE A VOTE ON WHETHER DADS SHOULD PAY CHILD SUPPORT, BUT I GUESS WE KNOW HOW HE WOULD VOTE ON THAT ONE.

  2. Joe Walsh and his ex-wife will settle their personal issue in the courts.

Joe Walsh is doing a great job as a Congressman. I worked to get him into office and if Joe Walsh is in my district the next time I will work to reelect Joe Walsh to Congress as long as he continues to vote the correct way, in the interests of the country.

When Dick Durbin is up for election I hope Joe Walsh runs against him. Joe Walsh has the energy, enthusiasim and knowledge and will have some campaign money to give Dick Durbin a race and throw Dick Durbin out of office.

Then we need to get a conservative to run against Kirk and get rid of him. You can follow our congressman and senators on Megavote to see how they are voting on the bills in Washington D.C. Joe Walsh has done a very good job.

  3. How did he vote on State Child Support legislation …. oh, nvrmind.

  4. IF YOU HOLD TO THE TEA PARTY LINE THE SUPPORTERS WILL OVER LOOK YOUR PERSONAL SHORT COMINGS. “Joe Walsh is doing a great job ”
( AVOIDING PERSONAL FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY ). “When Dick Durbin is up for election I hope Joe Walsh runs against him” (BECAUSE EVERYBODY KNOWS DURBIN IS A SCUMBAG LIBERAL WHO TAKES CARE OF HIS FAMILY AND PAYS HIS BILLS, WHAT A LOSER!) WE CERTAINLY DON’T NEED THE LIKES OF DURBIN RUNNING AROUND THE SENATE.

  5. RUSRUS, REPUBLICANS HATE PAYING FOR ANYTHING. POLICE, FIRE, PUBLIC WORKS AND THEIR ASSOCIATED PENSIONS ETC. ARE GIFTS FROM GOD. WHY SHOULD THEY HAVE TO PAY FOR NEW STREETS AND HIGHWAYS? WHY SHOULD THEY HAVE TO PAY FOR SNOW REMOVAL? LET SOMEBODY ELSE PAY. THEY WORK HARD FOR THEIR MONEY AND THEY’RE KEEPING EVERY CENT. OH AND DON’T EVEN CONSIDER LETTING THE BUSH TAX BREAK FIASCO EXPIRE BECAUSE THAT WOULD CUT INTO THE DOLLARS CONTRIBUTED TO THE PARTY.

  6. John, all caps, is considered yelling, it is impolite and often used by people who most consider crazy, just sayin.

  7. Boy John…. why fly off the handle with such ridiculous comments?

Lean back and take a deep breath. I vote Republician and am certainly willing to pay MY FAIR SHARE for all the items you list above. But I do hate paying for lazy people that always have their hand out wanting a free ride.

I worked my 55 years to get where I am today and so should the millions of others that are able.

I don’t like just giving to those who don’t deserve it. But as a retired middle class homeowner I’ll have to admit it’s tough to pay some of the taxing bodies whose services I don’t even use. I have SOME responsibility in paying for local roads…. because I use them. I have SOME responsibility for the police, fire, public works, schools, library and others that benefit of the entire community… because they provide services I use now or may need in the future.

But I’m not real sure if I should be paying the same tax rate for our schools as someone with a family of four kids in school, or for MCC, or the library, or the park district when I don’t use the services.

So, you’re right. I worked hard for my money and I want to keep all of it I can, but I want to be fair also!
