Algonquin Village President John Schmitt Testifies in Elgin on State Capital Bill

From the Illnois State Senate Democrats:

The first panel at today’s Senate hearing on capital includes Sean Michels from Metro West Council of Governments, Elgin Mayor Dave Kaptain, John Schmitt from McHenry County Council of Governments, and Steve Super from Village of South Elgin.

Algonquin Village President shares this summary of what he said:

The primary points for McHenry County Council of Governments were that Route 47 from Huntley to Charles Road needs to be done.

It is broken into two sections.

Rt 14 to Charles is in phase 2 and 14 south is in phase 1.

That is and has been our primary objective when speaking to Springfield.

It is silly to put out a wish list.

A Capital Bill is desperately needed to get the state back on track to attract commerce to offset property taxes.

Not done as in the past with one this year and then wait a decade.

A regular revenue stream for an annual bill is needed.

What that source is, well several ideas were discussed”

  • Gas tax
  • mileage tax
  • user fees like tolls
  • etc etc.

The final decision is that multiple revenue sources will end up being the solution.

The consensus of all that spoke up was in agreement that current funding is inadequate and new money is needed.

  1. Surprise, surprise, surprise.

The pols are looking to raise taxes.

Why don’t they ever look at cutting spending, reduce waste and cut pork projects?

  2. John Schmitt is a liberal establishment hack.

He’s been obediently, and happily, carrying out Rahm Emanuel’s biddings, and will now double down for Pritzker..

Soon will be a resolution that Alg is a sanctuary city
