CORRECTION – Chicago Police Commander WILL NOT Lose Pension for Cashing Dead Mother’s Social Security Checks for 25 Years

The Chicago Tribune article yesterday by Janson Meisner reported that ex-Chicago Police Commander Kennethy Johnson’s punishment for cashing his dead mother’s Social Security checks for 25 years was six months of community confinement, plus two years of probation.

Doesn’t sound like much of a penalty for stealing $360,000, does it?

The following is incorrect. As commenter Billy Bob points out, public pensions are not lost unless a felony is related to official duties.

Missing from the article was the real punishment.

That’s the loss of his police pension because, despite the seemingly low penalty, the crime was a felony.

Public employees with a felony on their record lose their public pensions.

  1. I thought public employees only lost their pensions for a job related felony.

  2. Good riddance.

The guy’s lucky he’s not in a jail cell

  3. As a former CPD watch commander/LT, I noticed a two tiered internal affairs punishment scale.

Same offense committed by a black and white cop: white got book slammed at him/her, but blacks got passes.

This is exemplified by the misconduct of the recently fired ex-Chief, who sailed away from all kinds if prior acts of highly questionable misconduct, just like the one that got him canned.

He thought he was immune because he was black, just like this guy above.

  4. Hilarious.

Affirmative Action elevates the unqualified/corrupt far beyond their true abilities. WTSHTF all of this PC non-sense will come apart at the seams!

Ousted Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said Tuesday that he didn’t “intentionally mislead or deceive” anyone about the mid-October night he was found sleeping behind the wheel of his SUV. Johnson, 59, released a statement through his attorney a day after Mayor Lori Lightfoot fired him for “ethical lapses,” just weeks before he was set to retire.

Lightfoot said an inspector general’s report, which hasn’t been released publicly, revealed Johnson misled her and the public about the circumstances of that evening and showed “flawed decision-making.”

Two Chicago newspapers published reports Monday night that seem to contradict Johnson’s public account of the incident, in which he blamed an issue with his medication. Johnson claimed he felt lightheaded while driving home and fell asleep after pulling over.

Lightfoot said he’d told her he had “a couple of drinks with dinner” that night.

In this Nov. 7, 2019 file photo, Mayor Lori Lightfoot speaks as Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson announces his retirement after more than three years leading the department in Chicago. Mayor Lightfoot fired Police Supt. Eddie Johnson Monday Dec. 2, 2019, due to his “ethical lapses.”

The Chicago Sun-Times reported he was drinking for hours with a female member of his security detail at a downtown restaurant.

The Chicago Tribune reported that the inspector general’s investigation includes video showing Johnson drinking for hours with a woman at a Chicago Board of Trade building restaurant. Both newspapers attributed the information to sources they didn’t identify
