IL-14: James Marter Pulls Out 18-Year-Old Attack on Jim Oberweis on Abortion

Yet Oberweis only candidate with any pro-life group’s endorsement for 2020 thus far

Republican congressional candidate James Marter on Thursday pulled out the 18-years-old “Taliban” story on opponent State Senator Jim Oberweis as part of a “Oberweis is not 100% pro-life” attack in Facebook.

The screenshot of the Facebook meme from Marter’s campaign Facebook page is below:

And the link in Marter’s meme is the November 2001 (that’s not a typo) dated article when Oberweis used those very poor choice of words, within 2 months of the September 11 attacks that year, to describe people who support the Right to Life.

The Facebook comments underneath this post are interesting:

So in response to a commenter who later states they are voting for Marter, anyway, the obvious question is brought up about the “Taliban” reference being back in 2001.

And Marter responded in the thread, and transcribed below:

“He will tell you he is prolife and he certainly has voted in the Illinois Senate. But ask him if he is 100% ProLife. He is not. Show where he is leading on the ProLife front? Or even trying until running for Congress.

“He was a supporter Bruce Rauner who not only signed HB40 into law but other bills. Anyone who supported Rauner in 2018 Primary, pure and simple was a sellout to the ProLIFE cause.

Additionally, key Marter volunteer, Linda Prestia of Carpentersville brings up Oberweis is not seen at ProLife rallys, and brings up Oberweis’ sister donated to Hillary Clinton in the past, and then charges Oberweis is not ProLife at all, contradicting Marter.

Bonnie Quirke & Dan McConchie in 2019

While Marter is banging the drum about being “100% ProLife”, Oberweis has thus far received the only endorsement from a genuine pro-life advocacy group.

Back in November, Oberweis was endorsed by the Lake County Life PAC, the political action committee of the Lake County Right to Life organization co-founded by Bonnie Quirke back in 1973.

Life PAC thus far is the only pro-life group of any kind that has endorsed a candidate in the 14th congressional district Republican primary.

Whether other pro-life groups, either locally or nationally, will weigh-in on the 14th district race remains to be seen. For example, the Susan B. Anthony (SBA) List announced endorsements yesterday for 8 women running for Congress across the country including in Illinois’ 17th district, but thus far has chosen to stay out of the 14th district, though Jeanne Ives in the neighboring 6th district has also received the SBA List’s endorsement.

COMMENTARY: The “Taliban” description used by Oberweis over 18 years ago does not match his feelings today. Since then, Oberweis has built a solid pro-life record in his nearly 7 years in the state senate.

And the Rauner-Ives primary was nearly 2 years ago and as pointed out on this blog on Labor Day weekend of last year, Oberweis voted against the disgusting HB40 back in 2017.

So what’s the next litmus test to be “100% ProLife”? Being arrested at an Operation Rescue protest rescuing babies and if you’ve never been arrested protesting an abortion clinic you are not “100% ProLife”?

It’s one thing to do a March for Life rally, it’s another thing to be handcuffed by law enforcement and taken to jail blocking womens’ entry into an abortion clinic, and Marter has not been talking about being arrested for the cause of Right to Life.

Marter even admitted Oberweis has voted pro-life in the Illinois senate, and clearly one major pro-life advocacy group put Oberweis’ foolish word from 2001 where it belongs, in the past while endorsing Oberweis on the more recent past and the present.

Discerning voters should apply similar discernment on all of the candidates and cast their votes accordingly.

IL-14: James Marter Pulls Out 18-Year-Old Attack on Jim Oberweis on Abortion — 4 Comments

  1. Mr Oberweis would say anything expedient to get elected.

    The Taliban comment is typical.

Right, moderate, deficit hawk, national debt oblivious, taxes, monetary policy, and national defense.

    He’ll say anything.

All he cares about is his desperate need to be elected.

  2. If you are going to re-write what I posted at least re-write it accurately.

What you got wrong: no i never wrote oberweis’ sister donated to Hillary Clinton in the past.

Since you can’t read correctly I will re-write it here:

“do you trust this RINO knowing he never shows up for any ProLife rallys, never stood up on the senate floor denouncing late term abortions… and knowing his family donated heavily to Hillary who believes babies in the womb don’t have constitutional rights. Oberweis is not ProLife… this statement furthermore backs up that fact himself!”

It’s really sad you can’t report someone’s quote accurately when you screen shot it yourself.

  3. No Linda Prestia, there is nothing wrong with my reporting or the use of facts, and I have read enough of your parody sites and press releases to know your projecting on me is something I easily see through.

James Marter called Jim Oberweis “pro life”.

    You said he’s not.

Deal with your contradiction, and then start telling the truth about what you wrote.

  4. Doesn’t matter when he said it.

It will be on a mailer in your mailbox soon.
