Algonquin Gets $400,000 for Stoneybrook Park

From the Village of Algonquin:

Village Receives $400,000 Grant for Stoneybrook Park

New amenities and improvements to be constructed this fall

The Village has been awarded a $400,000 Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant for the improvement of Stoneybrook Park in Algonquin.

Last improved in 1997, Stoneybrook Park will be redeveloped to add several new amenities including bocce ball courts, pickleball courts, a gaga ball pit, a pavilion, walking trail, and a 15-space parking lot.

Additionally, the existing playground and sand volleyball court will be replaced and improved.

“The improvements at Stoneybrook Park will be a positive enhancement to our park system” said Village President John Schmitt.

“The park improvements will be a welcome addition to our recreational offerings and provide our community with new and popular family activities. I would like to especially thank Recreation Superintendent Katie Gock and our recreation and parks staff for their efforts to secure this funding.”

Preliminary total cost estimates for the Stoneybrook Park improvement project are $930,000, with the OSLAD grant providing $400,000 to this total.

Construction on the Stoneybrook Park improvement project is anticipated to begin in late 2020 and be completed in summer 2021.

The grant award comes as the Village begins the creation of a parks and recreation comprehensive master plan to help guide recreation offerings and park development over the next 10 years.

Governor JB Pritzker announced $28.9 million in grants for 83 local projects which will help communities acquire open space and develop and improve recreational facilities throughout Illinois in January.  The OSLAD program is administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

Stoneybrook Park is located at 1200 Huntington Drive North in Algonquin. For more information about the Stoneybrook Park improvement project and the parks and recreation comprehensive master plan process, please visit www.algonquin.org.
