IL-14: Ted Gradel Leads in Form 6 Filings Sunday-Tuesday Mid-day *UPDATED: Sue Rezin $53K Form 6 Filed Tuesday Morning*

Ted Gradel

As independent expenditure funded broadcast TV advertising began, Gradel, along with Jerry Evans, Catalina Lauf and Sue Rezin filed Form 6s with FEC

On Sunday and Monday, Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings in the 14th congressional district continued.

A “Form 6” is the FEC equivalent of an Illinois State Board of Elections A-1 filing, and is required to be filed within 48 hours within the last three weeks prior to an election if an individual contributor gives over $1,000 to a campaign.

UPDATE: As of 12:30PM CDT Tuesday afternoon, Sue Rezin’s campaign filed a Form 6 with $53,000 of contributions, including a $50K contribution from herself. As stated over the weekend, individual candidates do not have contribution limits of $2,800 that individual donors have.

On Sunday, Monday & Tuesday (mid-day), the following campaigns filed Form 6s and the aggregated amount of contributions:

  • Sue Rezin: $54,000
  • Ted Gradel: 3,300
  • Jerry Evans: 1,000
  • Catalina Lauf: 1,000

Please note, contributions to campaigns under $1,000 are not required to be reported through a Form 6.

The amount the 14th district Republican candidates filed has been added to the total amounts of receipts the campaigns have received after February 26:

Grid does not include Sue Rezin’s latest $53K which brings her number to $164K since February 26

Given the independent expenditure (IE) the $710K broadcast TV ad buy from the Illinois Conservatives PAC, Jim Oberweis did not add additional monies to his coffers, so if he plans to combat the barrage of negative TV advertising, thus far his campaign will do so with the $415K cash on hand he reported last week with his FEC Pre-primary report filing.

Jim Oberweis

Finally, since the New Prosperity Foundation has also been funding Independent Expenditures (IE) mailings since the first of the year against Jim Oberweis and Sue Rezin, their Pre-Primary report showed the following early February contribution:

  • Thomas Mazza: $50,000

As previously reported by Cal a month ago, Mr. Mazza is a Ted Gradel maxed-out donor. The above amount is in addition to the $150K Mr. Mazza previously contributed to New Prosperity.

In Cal’s February 10 article, only one IE had been filed with the FEC, with a $35,103 amount spent on a mailing.

To date, New Prosperity has spent the following against Oberweis:

  • $155,410, or an additional $120,307 since the publication of last month’s article

In closing, think about this concerning the primary. The IEs spent are in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. In the general election, the Republican nominee will be facing IEs into the millions of dollars against them.

As Republican primary voters make their final decisions about their choice for the nomination, they will need to consider, with what has been seen thus far, which Republican candidate has the intestinal fortitude to face what’s coming in the general election.
