IL-6: Ives Goes After Casten Conflict of Interest

From the Jeanne Ives for Congress campaing:

Casten Attempted to Use COVID-19 Crisis For Personal Gain

Sean Casten attempted to use the chaos surrounding an unprecedented crisis to benefit personally and politically.

April 6, 2020 – When Rep. Sean Casten (IL-06) said his top priorities are, “Climate Change, Climate Change and Climate Change,” he wasn’t joking.

In the heat of negotiations over the COVID-19 emergency relief bill, Casten didn’t stand up for the small business owners in Downtown Wheaton, Downers Grove, or Palatine who were just weeks from going out of business.

He didn’t stand up for unemployed workers in Algonquin or Barrington who had no idea how they would pay their rent or mortgage on April 1.

And he didn’t use his time composing a letter on behalf of minimum wage workers throughout the district struggling to pay their bills.

Instead, on March 20, Casten and 8 other US Representatives signed a letter to Nancy Pelosi and House leaders (pictured below) pushing for additional special subsidies and tax deals for the Green Energy industry – a sector that is already heavily subsidized.

To be clear, there was already relief in the COVID-19 emergency bill for the essential services mentioned in the letter.

Casten and his associates were asking for additional carve-outs and credits for their pet projects.

More importantly, it is a sector in which Sean Casten is personally invested, via a company called Greenleaf Power, LLC.

According to a RollCall.com article, “The company that operates the Plainfield facility for Greenleaf sells electricity and renewable-energy credits.”

By virtue of extending those credits, Greenleaf and its investors would profit.

Jeanne Ives

“Sean Casten attempted to use the chaos surrounding an unprecedented crisis to benefit personally and politically.

“He didn’t stand with the people in his district. He pushed for his own interests and those of his political allies,”  said Jeanne Ives, Candidate for Congress (IL-06).

“Your constituents expect decisive action to stop the spread of COVID-19 and mitigate financial hardship. Casten has betrayed the confidence placed in him to represent this district in his effort to exploit a crisis for personal gain.

“Our community deserves serious, thoughtful representation that is focused on working with them to tackle our most difficult challenges, not Sean Casten who turns his back on them when there is a chance to gain personally or distribute goodies to his friends and political allies.”

IL-6: Ives Goes After Casten Conflict of Interest — 12 Comments

  1. Donald Trump , Queen Elizabeth II and Vladimir Putin all died and go to hell.

While there, they saw a red phone and asked what the phone is for.

The devil tells them it is for calling back to Earth.

Putin asks to call Russia and talks for 5 minutes. When he is finished the devil informs him that the cost is a million dollars, so Putin writes him a cheque.

Next Queen Elizabeth II calls England and talks for 30 minutes. When she has finished the devil informs her that the cost is 6 million dollars, so she writes him a cheque.

Finally Trump gets his turn and talks for 4 hours. When he has finished the devil informs him that the cost is $5.00.

When Putin hears this, he goes angrily and asks the devil why Trump got to call USA so cheaply.

The devil smiles and replies: “Since Trump took over, the country has gone to hell, so it’s a local call.”

  2. Nancy that’s about as funny as your health record.

  3. Thanks Casten—your constituents need help with small business loans and getting through on the Illinois Unemployment web site (dont even bother calling), you do nothing in those areas, this is where we live man…

Casten was always the smartest kid in the schools he went to (good test taker, memorizer) but just cant seem to figure out how to make a difference in the real world–especially in peoples lives.

We’re hurting bro, while you fiddle about temperatures.

    Jerk.

Call some shuttered small businesses, talk to furloughed folks, find out whats important to them during a crisis.

    Wake up Nerd.

  4. Time to support and unite behind our our honorable Congresspeople successful entrepreneur Sean Casten and accomplished nurse Lauren Underwood, as well as behind honorable Governor Pritzker and Chicago mayor Lightfoot; all great leaders of our time. Doing otherwise would be treasonous and evil. With regards to our six-times-bankrupt, sexual-assaulter-in-chief, well, let him figure out whether it is a good idea to put in practice the suggestion he gave about protective masks. Stay tuned…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, hug a blogger, tic, tock, tic, tock, meeeeeeoooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwww…

  5. “The company that operates the Plainfield facility for Greenleaf sells electricity and renewable-energy credits.”

The very definition of Voodoo Economics

  6. She needs to put this in an add and her comms director needs to be beating down the door of every reporter in the district to write about this.

What an absolute hypocrite Casten is.

He is a pos too. He doesn’t even try to represent his district, only those who voted for him.

  7. Re Nancy at 5:06 PM. Looks like nancy is recyclying an old joke I heard back about 8-10 years ago when Barak Hussein Obama was president. She substituted Trump for Hussein.

  8. In a debate back in 2018, Sean Casten flippantly compared an abortion to a gall bladder operation. He said,

“I view abortion as a medical procedure like a gall bladder surgery”

Per Casten, abortion just an inconvenience like a diseased gall bladder. Get rid of it. No big deal per him, AND many Democrats.

Casten, like many Democrats, view abortion by a woman as her “reproductive right”. Wrong!! Abortions desired by some pregnant women are their “destructive rights” granted by humans in a court and should rarely be used. Only in rape or incest. Abortions are not of nature nor God. Not natural. Nature wants to reproduce.

  9. Cal, there’s a typo in your headline.

    Interst should be interest.
