The endorsement page of McHenry County Board Chairman Jack Franks’ re-election web site has information that some see as misleading and others as containing outright lies.

Here’s the heading:

Under it is a map showing towns with endorsements of mayors and village presidents. But many of them are no longer in office. The page does list them as “formers,” and is accurate enough to leave off two who have died, Crystal Lake Mayor Aaron Shepley and Algonquin Village President John Schmitt.

Many of the endorsements are written in the future tense, which leads me to conclude that they are recycled form the 2016 race.

Consider this from former McCullom Lake Village President Terry Counley:

You know, I have been bugging you for years to run as Governor, and I understand why you wouldn’t, especially now days. But, we need you here in McHenry County. I think with the way you are relentless with your missions, you would make a great County Board Chairman.

Surely, no one today thinks Jack Franks will ever be a candidate for Governor, considering the State Police investigation in Springfield.

On the right hand side of the page are newspaper endorsements.

Run in full is the 2016 endorsement from the Northwest Herald.

Had he reprinted the NWH’s 2020 endorsement–the only one he received this year–in full, the following would have appeared:

Under the four-year old NWH endorsement appear four-year old endorsements from the Chicago Tribune and the Daily Herald.

Is this lying or deception?

In reality, Republican Mike Buehlet was endorsed by the Daily Herald and the Chicago Tribune.

Franks also claims endorsements from Illinois Realtors and the McHenry County Farm Bureau:

The Farm Bureau says it is from 2016; I have a call into the Illinois Association of Realtors to see if it endorsed Franks this year.
