Althoff Co-Sponsoring Bill To Freeze Legislative Salaries

State Senator Pam Althoff has assumed Senate sponsorship of legislation to keep legislative salaries constant.

Here is Althoff’s press release on the subject:

Althoff sponsors legislation prohibiting pay raise

Springfield, IL – State Senator Pamela Althoff is a co-sponsor of legislation prohibiting a pay raise for lawmakers. Under House Bill 5760, lawmakers would not receive their scheduled Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) increases to their salary set for July 1.

They would also not receive any increase to their daily per diem and mileage reimbursement rate.

House bill 5760 passed the House April 18 with an overwhelming majority and is now in the Senate Government Reform Committee.

“Illinois is facing more than $8 billion in unpaid bills, and while prohibiting COLAs is a small amount, it’s the least we, as lawmakers, can do.

“We must lead by example and be responsible stewards of taxpayer money, which is exactly what this legislation demonstrates,” said Althoff.

“For the past nine years, I have voted in favor of banning legislator pay increases.

“This is a standard and responsible measure that demonstrates the need to make the taxpayer the priority and shows we are serious about fixing our financial mess.

“I am pleased that the House overwhelmingly passed this proposal and hope for similar passage in the Senate.

“I also hope that this is the first of several critical reforms that help get Illinois’ fiscal house in order.”

The legislation would also prohibit automatic raises to statewide constitutional officers and State’s attorneys.

  1. How about a bill removing pension benefits for elected officials, Pam?
That would actually have an impact.

  2. Selfless Pol, freezing the highest legislative pay in nation.

    Gee, thanks.

  3. She’s done her terrible damage in Springfield lo, these many years, and as a self-created lame duck, the lobbyists won’t be paying ANY attention or further monetary tribute-swag to her.

So, she can now file this bill and try to feel good about her ugly-RINO self, and point to it and say, “I tried so hard to clean things up in Springpatch, but couldn’t get anywhere.

Then, like the carrion-eating vulture she truly is, she’ll wing her foul way back to McHenry Co., to continue her feasting on the road-kill taxpayers!

  4. Is Pam Althoff for real?

    I’m LMAO.

    She’s plastic.

    She’s an impersonator!

  5. On her way out!?

This is the same tactic the Jackass Franks uses to give the impression he cares about the taxpayer!

Has his hands in ‘consolidating’ everyone else’s position but his own!

Sorry Pam, this rings hollow. Why didn’t you get this thru while You were in and it would’ve effected you?

  6. They have agreed to a 20% raise per year for the next 20 years. See the pay is frozen.

  7. Too late; RingMaster Franks already collected his million dollars for zero property tax relief bills during his time in Springfield.

At least the coffee and donuts were good!
