The self-starter Republican candidate for Attorney General from the Metro East part of Illinois was at the Cottage in Crystal Lake last night.
One could tell that different folks were in control of the McHenry County Republican Central Committee.
For starters the event was sponsored by three newly-elected Republican Precinct Committeemen
- Eric Dowd
- Craig Asbach
- Matt Meyer
New officers of the Republican Party were in attendance
- Chairman Sandy Salgado
- VC Andrew Gasser
- Secretary Diane Evertsen
- Treasurer Chuck Wheeler
The outgoing ones were not but many of their supporters were.
Making his first appearance in McHenry County was 14th Congressional District State Central Committeeman Stan Bond.
He is from far southern Kane County and won the three-way race with State Rep. Barb Wheeler and outgoing Lake County GOP Chairman Bob Cook of Wauconda.
Right before the respective Republican Party Conventions in DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Lake Counties, 14th District Congressman Randy Hultgren endorsed Wheeler.
There was a good crowd, drawn by the pizza, as well as the candidate.
Schimpf was introduced by newly-elected GOP Precinct Committeeman Dowd.
Schimpf pointed out that the experts said he couldn’t beat Lisa Madigan.
He observed that the experts having been wrong “all along” about his candidacy.
The experts had said that
- Lisa Madigan would run for Governor
- he could not run for Attorney General
- he could not collect the 10,000 signatures to get on the ballot
Schimpf punctuated each assumption with “They were wrong!”
He told how he had gotten petition signatures at Chicagoland train stations with his mother-in-law.
“Nobody’s had time to corrupt me,” he told commuters.
“Our state desperately needs an Attorney General who is not beholden to the insiders,” he told those at the Cottage.
“Once you’ve dealt with Saddam Hussein, the Ace of Spades, corruption in Springfield doesn’t seem all that bad,” observed the Marine attorney who was the chief advisor to the Iraqi prosecutors in the case.
Schimpf pointed out that
- Lisa Madigan is over-confident to the point that she does not appear at non-partisan events or even sent a representative
- Lisa Madigan is actually vulnerable among Downstate Democrats for leading them on about her running for Governor
- public employees are mad at “Madigan for breaking their pension promises”
“I’m not your typical statewide Republican candidate,” the retired colonel said.
“I wasn’t recruited by the Republican Establishment.
There was the typical discussion about ambitions and who had said what to whom, including the latest on the recount initiated by losing Republican candidate for Sheriff Andy Zinke.
The word was that one extra vote had been found for winner Bill Prim, but it would not be officially added unless Zinke won the right for a full recount.
They already have found 1 extra vote “FOR” Bill Prim.
Well what does that show you Zinke l.o.l.
Maybe when they keep going Bill may have won by a lot more votes.
