OK, folks who want to do some research.
Yesterday, McHenry County Blog published the pay for Sheriff’s Department employees for the pay period prior to the primary election.
That’s the one in which Bill Prim narrowly defeated Undersheriff Andy Zinke.
Below is the last pay period in November. It seems that it contains some days in December, but I don’t think that will hurt the analysis that I hope some will do.
Compare the February payroll to the November payroll and tell readers in the comment section who got raises and who supported the candidate favored by Sheriff Keith Nygren.

I realize that the comparisons are there, but it may be interesting to see if the also received promotions!
Last name on list, starts with “Z”:
$11019.66 vs. $5509.83
That is exactly doubled, which suggests possibly was for two pay periods?
Cal, in what form did you receive the payroll records?
If they are “images”, then there isn’t much to be done.
But if they are true PDFs or Word docs, or some sort of spreadsheet, then translating them and comparing them should be fairly straightforward.
Raw numbers really mean very little since…
There could be some retirements with cashing out of unused, current vacation pay; there could be overtime for many, there could be some quirky thing with number of hours actually tallied in one pay period being more than those tallied in the previous one you’re comparing to.
How about automatic step increases which kick in on an employee’s anniversary date vs. calendar/fiscal year?
The possibilities are many and that’s not to say that somebody didn’t get promoted.
Wouldn’t it have been better to submit your FOIA requesting a list of all employees who have had a change in base salary classification between, say February 1 and December 1 and the amounts?
You got the change forms for Zinke, Sedlock, Firman and Salgado so… Why throw this stuff out there and leave so many questions unanswered which could be easily answered?

At the end of the fiscal/budget year sheriff’s employees have to have their comp time down to certain numbers depending on if you’re a supervisor or not depends on how much you can carry over for the next year.
If you have more than you are allowed to carry over you must “cash” in the extra…there is your conspiracy!
The November figure includes cashed in sick leave and vacation.
