Didn’t get to reading the Chicago Tribune on Friday.

Now I find that it has endorsed Barrington Hills Village President Martin McLaughlin for the 26th District State Senate seat that Dan Duffy is vacating.

Here’s the endorsement:

26th District: Three talented Republicans are vying to replace outgoing Sen. Dan Duffy, R-Lake Barrington. One of them has a familiar name. Casey Urlacher — yes, brother of a certain football legend and no, we didn’t ask about his hair — works in business development for a construction firm and is mayor of Mettawa. Dan McConchie of Hawthorn Woods is vice president of government affairs for Americans United for Life. Martin McLaughlin is an investment manager and mayor of Barrington Hills.

McConchie touts his deep understanding of policy and says Republicans need someone with his background to help develop strategy in Springfield. Urlacher says he would limit himself to 10 years in the Senate and would help the GOP attract younger voters. But the candidate who would be most independent and who has the best record of fighting for taxpayers is McLaughlin. In less than three years as mayor, McLaughlin cut the village’s property tax levy, reduced out-of-control legal expenses, reorganized departments and consolidated the 911 system. And he did it with a Village Board that resisted his changes. McLaughlin knows how to do more with less. Springfield could use a lot of that. McLaughlin is endorsed.
