Three Candidates File in 33rd Senate District

There have been three announced candidates in the 33rd State Senate District that runs from just south of my precinct, which is just south of Crystal Lake, the lake, but they weren’t the three that showed up on the Illinois State Board of Elections web site after petition filing closed.

A previously unknown candidate for State Senate in the 33rd District popped up on the State Board of Elections web site Monday. His name is Craig Powers and he is from Geneva.

The 33rd State Senate District with underlying State Rep. districts.

Karen McConnaughay

Kane County Board Chairman Karen McConanughay of St. Charles was the first to announce.

So far, she has by far the best organized campaign.

Then came Chad Koppie of Rutland Township.

Cliff Surges

Finally, Cliff Surges announced.

He is from Gilberts.

Koppie withdrew in Surges’ favor last week.

And Monday Craig Powers of Geneva filed for the State Senate seat.

If anyone can tell me how to get in touch with him, please do.

  1. Two candidates from Geneva (Moderate Karen and Powers) and doesn’t Cliff Surges live in D300? Is Cliff the front runner now?

  2. The McConnaughay campaign is not better organized than Surges.

Cal, you and I both attended that weak 30 person announcement Karen put on in West Dundee.

You missed the 100 plus person announcement Surges had. Surges turned in 2007 signatures, very good against a 19 year career politician with hundreds of county payrollers and political insiders to tap for support.

Surges has been appearing at event after event in Kane where I have seen him and KMC has been missing.

I can’t speak for McHenry County. Cliff could probably get there more but i am not his scheduler.

There won’t be a legitimate, honest conservative organization in Illinois that picks moderate McConnaughay over conservative Surges. Powers will be a non-factor.
