Skillicorn Berates Democrats on Budget Failure

A press release from GOP candidate for State Representative Allen Skillicorn:

Skillicorn on budget failure

Allen Skillicorn

Allen Skillicorn

Illinois State Representatives and Senators have been in Springfield since January, and session traditionally ends May 31st. Pursuit to Section 2, Article VIII of the Illinois Constitution, our legislators are required to pass a balanced budget. Instead the majority of members, and by majority,

I do mean Illinois Democrats, refused to set aside their partisan differences and compromise to protect our families from higher taxes and service shortfalls. Instead, they left Springfield without passing a balanced budget.

In the house, they passed a budget that is $7 billion out of balance and would require tax increases of $1,000 on our families.

In the Senate, they proposed a graduated income tax hike, GPS trackers to tax us on miles driven, a property tax hike, and a retirement tax on seniors.

I’m going to Springfield because the families in our region are being taxed out of their homes can’t afford to wait any longer, and they can’t afford to pay any more.

Both Kane and McHenry counties have some of the highest property taxes in the nation.

Our jobless rate also leads the nation. Families I talk with are hurting because the politicians in Springfield refuse to work out solutions to our economic and job climate problems.

Legislators had five months this session to find solutions, to find some compromise. Instead under direction from Mike Madigan and the Chicago Democrats in charge, the legislature had time to pass a ridiculous resolution for Healthy Puppy Day, but did not have time for a third reading and vote on a stop-gap measure that would ensure our schools open on time and fund core services.

This doesn’t work for our families. All these politicians claim to be for lower taxes, yet we pay the highest property taxes. We don’t have a balanced budget despite all these politicians who claim they are fiscally conservative.

Reforming Illinois is about substance. Talk versus action.

I am going to Springfield to do the right thing, not just say the right thing.

  1. Rip ’em a new one, Allen.

Not that I think it will make one bit of difference, but I like your style.

  2. This situation seems more hopeless by the day.

Shouldn’t a rational person, one who cares about his family and his/her future, simply move?

Why wait on people in Springfield to fix the situation, when they probably won’t, and when such a fix will likely hurt their pocketbooks?

Even if Mike Madigan were to die, some other union backed obstructionist would take the helm.

This whole state is going to turn into Detroit.

  3. You are so right, Joe.

I am too old to go anywhere.

Believe me we have dreamt of leaving over and over.

Had we done something a few years ago, we woudln’t have become so broke that we now CANNOT leave.

I’d advise you to leave while the gettin’ is good.

Like an old war movie, where the downed person says

    “Save yourself!”

  4. What does the implosion of a state look like ?

All those “home for sale signs” you see popping up like weeds everywhere you look is a very telling clue.

As Ms. Cindy says above: save yourself and your families, before it is too late – and don’t forget to thank a DEMOCRAT on your way out.

  5. DEMOCRATS like Madigan and his lap dog Lying Jack Franks have ruined and bankrupted every government they have ever run.

The great Usurper O’Bummer has run the national dept to the point where it’s no longer possible to pay it off, while lesser hacks have ruined cities like Detroit; all DEMOCRATIC.

It’s coming to your back yard folks and only you can stop it. Like what’s happening in Chicago?

Put a DEMOCRAT in charge of McHenry County and watch it go to hell.

  6. The Governor shined a light on the disfunction in Springfield and managed to captivate a huge audience across Illinois.

He is utilizing social media to spread the word and that is what we need for reform to take place in our State.

Rauner, will go down as the most proactive Governor in Illinois history and will leave us an incredible legacy.

Now, it is the responsibility of the people to vote those trouble making Democrats out of office in November.

  7. Move to Indiana.

Enjoy your county tax on top of your state income tax down there!

    Wisconsin you say?

They have a progressive income tax.

If Illinois adopted their tax structures there would be no deficit.

Meanwhile King Rauner and his cronies are scooping up state nursing homes pennies on the dollar.

Medicare expansion has doubled in the last 10 years.

Made the governor filthy rich off tax payer dollars.

  8. South Side Gator failed to mention that Obamacare insurance premiums in Illinois went up 8.1 % in the past year; Indiana went down 12.1 %; Wisconsin went up 3. 4 %.

Anyone can pick and choose taxes to compare from state to state, however I choose to look at the entire package.

Based on the numbers here: https://wallethub.com/edu/best-worst-states-to-be-a-taxpayer/2416/#complete-rankings
Illinois residents pay the HIGHEST total tax as a percentage of income in the country.

This will not change until we address the following:

    – Constitutional protection of public sector pensions

    – Prevailing wage law on state projects and PLAs on federal projects

    – lack of ‘right to work’ laws

    – state law against using E-Verify in the public sector

    – state preference for funding city of Chicago schools over other schools which has created a situation where property taxes in the City of Chicago are 50 % of what they are in McHenry County

We must elect people to office who are willing to remove Michael Madigan as Speaker.

In McHenry County we must ensure that lying Jack Franks NOT be elected as either County Board Chairman or Representative for D-63.

Walk and work for Reick and Walkup.

  9. Mr. Skillicorn – are you aware that Rauner too has said he is going to raise taxes?

Also, its amusing, Mr Skillicorn, that you highlight the part of the constitution regarding the legislature passing a balanced budget.

But you never mention the part of the constitution where the Governor is supposed to propose a balanced budget.

    Why is that, Mr. Skillicorn?

Is that because Rauner has had two official budget addresses to propose a balanced budget, and he hasn’t done so either time?

Are you even aware of that, Mr. Skillicorn?

BTW – Mr. Skillicorn, are you endorsing Trump?

  10. That is an excellent question: does Skillicorn endorse Trump?

Does he have the guts that Bruce Rauner lacks? Rauner’s “non-endorsement” of the GOP candidate for President is a national embarrassment

  11. Be sure to check out the tax forms they fill out at the end of the report comparing the aggregate taxes.
