Joe Walsh Says Poll Puts Him Dead Even

Here’s the email that went out Wednesday night:

Poll: Walsh Ahead of Bean

Dear Friends,

Joe Walsh

An independent poll was released today showing that our race is a dead-heat!  A representative of We Ask America, the firm that conducted the poll for QuincyNews.org, said our race has moved from the “probable Democrat” category to “too close to call.”

According to the poll we are statistically tied with Melissa Bean at 41% each.

This validates what we have been seeing and hearing on the ground for months.

Voters in our district are fed up with politics as usual and a Congress which has put social experiments like Obamacare and big bank bailouts ahead of job creation and helping people save their homes.

Soon Melissa Bean and Nancy Pelosi will begin spending millions on personal attacks.

They know this race is a dead-heat and that they can’t win talking about the issues.

Just yesterday Bean’s campaign sent out a preview of what’s to come.

The e-mail contained the following,

“Melissa’s opponent says he is fiscally responsible, but over the last 18 years has failed to pay his taxes, his mortgage, his condo fees, his contractor and even his water bill.“

As you know, I have been completely open about the financial challenges that I’ve faced in life.  I know what it’s like to lose a home to foreclosure and I’ll do everything I can as a Congressman to make sure that others don’t have to go through what my family experienced.

What Melissa and Nancy Pelosi don’t get is that this election is not about Joe Walsh or water bills.  This election is about returning government to the 10.6% of people who are unemployed in Illinois.  This election is about electing people to office who will look out for the best interests of their community rather than lobbyists and Washington special interest groups. This election is about America’s future not the same old politics of the past and personal attacks.

Just yesterday, a journalist wrote that Melissa Bean, “has pulled in over $773,000 from Wall Street in the 2010 cycle alone, while working overtime to carve loopholes into new consumer protections (she’s scored $2.4 million over the course of her Congressional career).”

Let’s not let Melissa Bean buy this election with her dirty campaign money.  Our final fundraising quarter ends in just over 24 hours.  $500, $250, $100, $50, or even $20 will help us combat Melissa Bean’s attack ads, talk about the issues that really matter to people and win this race!

Thanks for your continued support.

Best regards,
Joe Walsh
Candidate for Congress

In the Quincy Herald-Whig article, pollster Gregg Dunham is quoted as saying,

“Unlike many other Midwestern congressional districts we’ve measured, Independent voters are not strongly favoring the Republican candidate (Walsh). His support stems from the slight-GOP voter plurality in this district–the same plurality that has elected Bean over the past few cycles.”

The poll shows Walsh and Bean at 41% and Green Party candidate Bill Scheurer at 5%.
