Kane County Republican and County Board Chairman receives broad support from throughout newly drawn district

SPRINGFIELD, IL- Karen McConnaughay today filed petitions to be placed on the ballot for the Republican nomination for the Illinois State Senate in the newly created 33rd District, which includes much of northern Kane and southeastern McHenry Counties.

McConnaughay, currently the Chairman of the Kane County Board, filed more than twice the required signatures to qualify for the ballot and obtained signatures from voters in all of the District’s 11 townships.

“The response was very heartening,” said McConnaughay. “Voters in Kane County were very supportive and appreciated our efforts to cut spending and reduce government headcount, and voters in McHenry were very enthusiastic about my plans to attack wasteful spending at the state level.”

McConnaughay recently passed a county budget that further reduces spending and cuts the property tax levy for homeowners.

She has reduced county department headcount by over 25% during her tenure and recently finalized a new county health insurance contract that actually reduces the cost for both taxpayers and also employees by restructuring benefits.

“As I have traveled across this new district talking to voters they tell me loud and clear that they need my kind of conservative fiscal leadership in Springfield,” said McConnaughay.

“They want results and they want someone to go to Springfield who knows how to get these things done, not more empty speeches and divisive partisanship.”

The 33rd District was created when state lawmakers redrew legislative boundaries following the 2010 Census. The 33rd District includes all or part of Crystal Lake, Huntley, Lake in the Hills, Lakewood, Carpentersville, Hampshire, Elgin, South Elgin, St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia, Algonquin, Sleepy Hollow, Gilberts, Pingree Grove, East and West Dundee.

  1. Karen McConnaughay is creating a new image for herself and those of us in Kane County know better.

She called giving her closest associates raises “restructuring” boosting the pension of a staff member whose relative gave her campaign donations.

McConnaughay has raised over $965,000 from mostly Kane County contract holders, developers and engineering firms.

The “fiscal” leadership she speaks of is “fictional” and she sat on the insurance contract and it savings until it worked for the recreation of her political record.

The McHenry County Blog needs to post the extensive list of McConnaughay campaign donors and her payments to Cook County consultants, lobbyists etc.

Her interest in McHenry County has no history.

  2. What a shame that this hater who goes by so many different names on the blogs (Candid Kane, Reformer, etc) keeps spewing her same venomous message.

Truth, your hatred is borderline psychotic and you should seek out the help of a good dr.

Your hate message is the same over and over to the point of exhaustion.

Rather than hiding behind the “I know all this but want the media to put it out” do it yourself.

Prove all the lies you keep spewing or shut the heck up it’s getting very old.

  3. McConnaughay knew she was going to lose any chance of re-election.

Especially after it was determined that she could never win a primary just in Kane Co. again.

If a list was kept in Kane County of all the people having an ‘issue’ with the Chairman the scroll would roll for miles.

    Just ask around.
