Former McHenry County Undersheriff Andy Zinke made the finals to replace the retiring Police Chief of Rantoul, Illinois, but he got edged out for the appointment.

Instead the Village Board selected Carpentersville Commander of Records and Administration Erman Blevins.

That’s what the News Gazette out of Champaign is reporting.

Mayor Chuck Smith is quoted as saying, “We had two exceptional candidates for this position.”

  1. While I’d like nothing more than to see this bad apple leave McHenry County, I must congratulate Rantoul, IL. They really dodged a bullet there! Maybe Andy can ask Mary McClellan for a job at the Clerk’s office? McClellans were big campaigners for the Nygren/Zinke train wreck! Maybe they’ll do their old buddy a solid?

  2. The NW Herald is reporting that the Woodstock Chief of Police is going to retire in June. I sure hope that Zinke doesn’t land there. It might be time to visit some City Council meetings and write some letters.

  3. IIRC, the Mayor of Woodstock is a Zinke supporter, and it seems like a pretty sure bet that Zinke will try to get the chief job. I don’t think it’s any too early for the good people of Woodstock to start thinking about how to make certain that he doesn’t get it.

  4. Get some Christmas spirit, you guys are really sad people. Leave him alone for goodness sake.

  5. foodie? Does your spirit mean that you just wish for evil to go away?

  6. foodie – He and his wife should have known that when you abuse your job and other people, you reap what you sow.

  7. Don’t think even the Mayor of Woodstock wants that liability.

Is he still selling garage doors?

  8. I hope that you are correct, voter, but the people of Woodstock cannot afford to fall asleep at the switch here.

I don’t really follow the goings-on of the Woodstock City Council, but most small legislative bodies are dominated by one or two people, and the rest pretty much go along to get along.

I can still remember back when a certain faction of the County Board foisted Nygren upon us when there was a vacancy.

If there is any movement at all towards giving the job to Zinke, it is important that the city council meetings be well attended by people who strenuously object, and the members of the city council will need to be inundated with letters and e-mails.

The price of liberty is eternal vigilance.
