IL-14: James Marter “Back in the Saddle Again” as Kendall County Republican Party Chairman

James Marter

Marter will lead Kendall Republicans to deliver strong support of votes for President Trump and Jim Oberweis and rest of the ticket

Last week at the virtual county convention of the Kendall County Republican Party, former congressional candidate James Marter won election as the Kendall County Republican Party Chairman.

Marter’s election is the 2nd time he will be party chairman in Kendall, with his first term being the 2016-2018 biennium. Marter’s new term is through the 2022 biennium.

Kendall County, which has 87 precincts and had 9,518 Republican primary ballots cast, will be critical for turning out a very strong Republican vote for congressional nominee Jim Oberweis in the 14th district, whose on the ballot in over 2/3 of the Kendall County precincts.

The newly minted Republican chairman issued the following statement:

“I am honored for the support of the Kendall County Republicans and pledge to work hard to bring all our Republicans together to bring victory across Kendall County for all of our County Board races, our County wide offices, our State legislative offices, providing our local races much emphasis.

“While supporting all the down ballot candidates, we support President Trump and plan to bring him a 2nd victory in Kendall County, we believe that supporting our faithful Republican Leader at the Top of the Ticket is the path to victory for all, as recently espoused by my good friend, U.S. Senate Republican Nominee Mark Curran from Lake County.

“We plan to deliver Kendall County for him as well as my good friends for Congress Sen. Jim Oberweis in the 14th District and Rick Laib in the 11th. We certainly have our work cut out for us, with 2018 being a devastating down year for Republicans everywhere, particularly in Illinois.

“We have elected State Representatives in three districts which we must defend vigorously. We have two brand new awesome Republican Nominees for State Senate, both who have long had my endorsement and support, Jeanette Ward (25th) and Tom McCullough (49th), a seat to retain and seat to gain respectively.

“There is a lot of excitement here now in Kendall County! We already have excellent commitment from our Republican Leaders. I’ve been in contact with our County Board Chairman Scott Gryder, as well as many of our Kendall County Republican Leaders, both elected and nominees.

“We are all working together. We share one common goal, to fight back the tyranny of the radical socialist of the Democrat Party, secure LIBERTY, Stand for LIFE, restore God and Religious Liberty to our nation, Protect our Citizens, put American First for the people of our County and our Great Country, and secure the Blessings of Liberty for all people.

Chairman Marter took questions from McHenry County Blog (MCB) on topics which could be relevant to McHenry County, and other counties within the 14th district.

Jim Oberweis

MCB: Has the Oberweis campaign for Congress, Jim 2020, discussed strategy for the general election, given multiple volunteer events are being cancelled or postponed within the 14th congressional district, including Geneva’s Swedish Days, due to the Coronavirus Pandemic?

“I have been in direct communication with the Oberweis campaign, and on Monday the 20th, we (Kendall County Republicans) held our first monthly meeting, online. [State] Senator & 14th Congressional District Nominee Jim Oberweis was one of our guests, as were several other nominees for Republican offices within districts in our county.

“He spoke of the many challenges we have with the current situation regarding the coronavirus, discussed a number of strategies for campaigning in light of the current constraints and challenges, and as things open up work on new strategies for outreach for the general election.

“I pledged to him that we work with his campaign and do whatever it takes to bring back the 14th and help him win in November!”

The quadrennial Illinois Republican Party Convention, currently scheduled for June 12-13 in Peoria, was discussed. The 9,518 Republican primary ballots cast allows Kendall County to send 19 delegates and 19 alternate delegates to the state convention.

MCB: What guidance have you received for the state Republican convention in Peoria?  Has it been rescheduled from the original June 12-13 convention date?

“To date, the guidance has been the plan is to move forward with ‘The ILGOP 2020 State Convention is taking place in Peoria from Friday, June 12th, to Saturday, June 13th. All Illinois Republicans are encouraged to attend!’

“We very much expect recommendations and precautions to be taken regarding anyone experiencing symptoms, etc. to remain at home, with all others following established precautions, social distancing, PPE etc.

“We are advised depending on businesses and state re-opening that plans may be subject to change so remain tuned in, but seems the plan is to keep the convention as planned if the threat subsides and the state and businesses open up.”

The final question asked of Chairman Marter from an initiative he took during the 2019 Oswego municipal elections and will it be expanded in 2021 to help build a Republican “bench” at the municipal, as well as township level.

In 2019, Marter organized a four candidate slate under the Republican Party platform as an established political party. The slate, which included the village president and three trustees, swept the April 2019 Oswego village elections unseating the incumbent village president and two incumbent trustees.

Municipalities with a population of at least 5,000, holds partisan elections for village board, unless the city/village operates under a nonpartisan form of government. The cities of Crystal Lake, McHenry and Woodstock operate under nonpartisan form of election.

But larger villages like Algonquin, Huntley and Lake in the Hills, officially hold partisan elections, but all candidates have traditionally run as “independent” on the village ballot.

With the background, the question posed to Chairman Marter:

MCB: Will you be pushing for the formal Republican Party slating of candidates for municipal elections across Kendall County for the 2021 elections as a way to build a “bench” for future Republican candidates for higher office?  While some municipalities within Kendall County (city of Aurora, village of Montgomery) have nonpartisan elections, there may be one or two cities/villages which have over the 5,000 population and allows for partisan elections for municipal board.

“I have championed working hard at the local level and working behind the scenes to help Republicans get elected to local offices.

“Since serving my first term as Chairman, we have five new Republican office holders elected in positions never (or at least not in modern history) been held by Republicans [Oswego village board].

“We are a conservative county here in Kendall and our voters want and expect their leaders to represent them and their values. There is really nothing non-partisan in politics, we will work to support good conservative Republican candidates, regardless of election law formats for races entered.

McHenry County Blog thanks Chairman Marter for his statement and his answering the questions. The blog wishes him well in his 2nd term as county Republican chairman.

IL-14: James Marter “Back in the Saddle Again” as Kendall County Republican Party Chairman — 12 Comments

  1. Oberweis, victorious among 7 candidates in the primary, was obviously not the first choice of many, many voters.

That is no longer the issue, as Oberweis is the choice of the Republican party and it is of paramount importance that he defeat Lauren Underwood.

As Republicans, we must retake the 14th Congressional District.

It is relatively certain that President Trump will not win Illinois but Republican wins in 14 and 6 (Jeanne Ives) would be an enormous victory for Republicans and would be a swing of 4 seats in the House.

Let’s band together and elect Oberweis and Ives.

  2. Bishop, you’re right.

    But force Oberweis to campaign.

I tried to coax Randy Hultgren to come out and campaign, but he didn’t until a week before the election.

He was a complete fool, And relied on pathetic operatives from lame duck Speaker Ryan, another loser.

  3. MsTrumpion, given Senator Oberweis participated in Monday’s meeting with Kendall County Republicans, I’m sure he knows what he needs to do, and will not pull a Randy Hultgren, once face-to-face campaigning is allowed, most likely as early as June.

At least the general will not be like the special election in California, which is completely void of door-to-door, or events.

The summer parade schedule will lose a month, from Memorial Day through June, given the pandemic, with the largest Swedish Days cancelled.

It’s looking like July 4, which falls on a Saturday, will be the first big parade day this summer in the 14th district.

Right now, Oberweis will be focused on raising money, and should be coordinating/planning his fall campaign including outlining his positions on the major issues in detail to contrast him from Congresswoman Underwood.

  4. Mr Lopez, What makes you so sure our 450 lb tyrant will not extend all summer?

  5. Fatty says ‘maybe July 1, 2020.

No Gay ‘Pride’ near nude gyrations down Halsted .

Bring your kids and see the freaks next year.

Keep a good eye on ‘em though.

    Cubs, bye bye!

Not enough diversity anyway, too many whites still play professional baseball.

  6. Republican Headquarters is in the tip of the “V” in the Crystal Lake Plaza.

Don’t know when it is open.

    Try Saturday late morning.
