Dems’ “Keep Mike in Office” Mantra Continues

Now comes Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot saying House Speaker Mike Madigan should not leave office until after (if) convicted of wrong-doing:

And, let me repeat, “if true” will not be determined until after a trial verdict.

Democrats are so bold.

This is not what she said.

Once again, Cal, you reference a Trib story and omit the link.

Why do you do that? Lazy?

So a reader has to look into exactly what was said and how it’s different than your interpretation of what she said.

    Quote:

“If those allegations are true, obviously he should resign,” Lightfoot said at an unrelated news conference on Monday. “But we don’t know that they are true yet.”

No where in that quote did the Mayor say he should say until he’s convicted.

She said if the allegations are true then he goes.

Seems like that’s how the process should play out, no?

Also, what trial are you talking about, Cal?

Madigan hasn’t been charged with a crime.

  2. She didn’t say that he shouldn’t leave office unless he is convicted.

Everyone in Illinois knows it’s true.

The only question is will the feds be able to prove it.

Therefore I’d would say that she was implying it.

Slippery words from a slippery politician.

  3. State Representative Mary Flowers (1985-present) is an excellent choice, for Speaker of the House. 🙂

  4. Neal and Oh, what do you think “if true” means to corrupt politicians???

    It means “prove I’m guilty.”

You think they’re going to step down before they’ve even been charged with anything?

What kind of la la world do you live in?

You’re adults and you’ve lived in Illinois for a while.

    Get real.

A strong statement would have been “they should resign now.”

None of this “if the allegations are true” crap.

There have been plenty of Democrats who called for the resignations of various politicians over mere allegations — usually sex related and it’s usually a Republican accused.

Lightfoot and others could have made stronger statements.

    They chose not to.

They chose to use weasel words and give Madigan an excuse to not step down.

They could have pressured him more but they did not.

“And, let me repeat, “if true” will not be determined until after a trial verdict.”

^^ Thank you for being the realist here, Skinner. ^^

  5. Anyone with morals exceeding a lab rat would be an improvement.

  6. I was saying the Lightfoot made a weak statement. I agree that he will not step down. I do think that he will either decide to not run at the end of his next or face a real primary. Someone on the far left will go after him, just not today maybe. Personally I bet he retires after the next term, regardless of charges. It let’s him control the story more and he will be 80+ by then.

  7. Luis Arroyo, Sr. and Martin Sandoval resigned.

    Derrick Smith was expelled. 😑

  8. This company my from loving me.

Crime is down Eddie Johnson! Once again over her pat head!

And it’s ok for hundreds of shootings to go on each week but not for the American citizen to want the troops in to stop destroying our tax paid property again she is over her pat head!

Pat is so dumb thinks she is above the fed laws doh doh

  9. I believe, The Cutback Amendment had a role in Madigan becoming speaker. 😑
