Wilcox Reports on Legislative Reform Efforts, Plus Flu Shots and School Visit

From State Senator Craig Wilcox:

In this News Update, promised details on legislative proposals for real reform to combat anti-corruption, which sadly happens all too-often in Springfield. Also, some pictures from two great local events: Our Drive-thru Flu Shot Clinic and a special visit to a local school.

Anti-corruption update – Tougher Investigations Needed

Illinois citizens deserve better than the culture of corruption in Springfield that has resulted in lawmaker resignations, arrests, indictments, and investigations.

So, our new legislative package improves investigative authority with these three proposals:

Senate Bill 4012: Allows the Attorney General to impanel a statewide grand jury to investigate, indict and prosecute bribery and misconduct by members of the General Assembly.

Senate Bill 4013: Provides states attorneys with wiretap authority.

Senate Bill 4014: Grants the Legislative Inspector General the ability to investigate members of the General Assembly without first receiving approval from the Legislative Ethics Commission. It also changes the composition of the Legislative Ethics Commission to make them all members of the general public rather than legislators.

We have urged our Democrat colleagues to take action on these measures. If you agree, sign my petition calling on anti-corruption reform here: http://www.senatorwilcox.com/sign-the-petition

The next Anti-corruption update includes proposals to help ensure legislators serve the public’s interest and not their own pocketbooks.

Also, on Tuesday, Oct. 21, I visited St. Mary’s School in Woodstock to participate in the ‘Principal For a Day’ program.

Principal For a Day is sponsored by the Illinois Principals Association. The idea is for school administrators to meet and build relationships with state and federal legislators.

It also gives lawmakers an opportunity to meet and interact with teachers and students. It’s a great experience, and it’s a program I’ve enjoyed during my time as State Senator…
