From the Algonquin Police Department:
Suspect arrested, charged for hate crime for actions taken against Uprising Bakery and Café
Lake in the Hills, IL – On 07/23/2022 at approximately 12:04 A.M., officers were dispatched to Uprising Bakery and Café, 2104 W. Algonquin Rd.
Responding officers were notified of an in progress criminal damage to property and the suspect had fled on foot.
An Algonquin police sergeant had seen the suspect leave the scene and was instrumental in this incident.
At approximately 12:05 A.M., Lake in the Hills officers, along with the Algonquin police sergeant took the suspect into custody.
Officers identified Joseph I. Collins of Alsip, Illinois and Mr. Collins was transported to the Lake in the Hills Police Department.
Mr. Collins was later transported to the McHenry County Correctional facility for his bond hearing.
Bond was set at $10,000.00, 10% applies.
At the time of this press release, Mr. Collins is still in custody.
The Uprising Bakery and Café sustained significant damage early this morning.
Officers found broken windows along with hateful messages spray painted on the building.
Due to this act, the event planned for this evening, has been canceled per the wishes of the bakery owner.
The safety and Constitutional rights of everyone are always the Lake in the Hills Police Department’s priority.
The Police Department is disheartened this happened in our Village, remain steadfast in our commitment to public safety and have zero tolerance to crimes against all members our community.
