From the McHenry Township Fire Protection District:

On January 31, 2023, at 12:02 pm, the McHenry Township Fire Protection District (MTFPD) was dispatched to the 1000 block of N. River Rd in McHenry for a reported structure fire.

MTFPD crews arrived at 12:05 pm to find a single-story home with heavy smoke coming from the roof.

MTFPD began an aggressive fire attack while simultaneously searching the residence for occupants.

It was determined that all occupants had exited the structure.

The fire was contained to the single structure and was brought under control within 20 minutes of arrival.

A box alarm was requested via the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) for change of quarter’s unit only.

This request backfilled MTFPD’s stations with units from other fire departments, as several emergency calls occurred during the fire.

MTFPD received assistance from Nunda, Crystal Lake, Woodstock, Round Lake, Wauconda, Antioch, and Fox River Grove fire departments.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.

The Red Cross was requested as the home was deemed uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and a damage estimate is not available at this time.
