Walmart Closing Four Chicago Stores

Marathon Pundit pointed me to this ABC-TV story:

From Marathon Pundit.

“Our Chicago stores have not been profitable since we opened the first one nearly 17 years ago – these stores lose tens of millions of dollars a year, and their annual losses nearly doubled in just the last five years.

The remaining four Chicago stores continue to face the same business difficulties, but we think this decision gives us the best chance to help keep them open and serving the community.”

The company said it has tried different strategies, including building smaller stores and offering services beyond retail, but says they have not improved stores’ performance.

The first Walmart I saw in Illinois was in Morris. It is now on its second building.

The comany’s strategy was to hit the edges of metropolitan areas.

They obviously moved into cities later.

Now the business plan seems to be reversing itself.

  1. Could looting and thefts by the neighborhood residents and employees of above mentioned stores
have anything to do with it?

    How many more to follow?

Uncomfortable questions which must remain unasked for obvious reasons.

    LET’S GO BRANDON!

  2. I’m sure it is Brandon Johnson’s fault that the stores haven’t been profitable for 17 years.

    🙄

  3. Even the stores are strong enough to make a decision to leave. How about you abe. Oh. That’s right you like being the ole bitching victim. Just get some balls and leave you weak link.

  4. And now the complaining begins… from the HOODS… when will they get it?

never i suspect since they still don’t understand the word STOP!

CHEATING AND STEALING does not cut it here in Merica…

Soon they will be reeling when the medicaid new law being proposed cuts them off..

    thank you Wisc.

  5. Does anybody else hear “Battle Hymn of the Republic” playing in the background?

  6. This is somehow even worse than the “tax cuts soaked the rich” headline.

The stores were unprofitable from the jump, if they were close to breaking even I could see not giving up right away but they lost a lot of money for 17 straight years!

And they were losing “tens” of millions of dollars, that doesn’t just stop at $10M, it could be higher then that.

Cal, do you just not give a shit anymore, because this is bad work.

Are you having trouble at home?

  7. I’m guessing Democrats get a little lost in the conversation, if the subject isn’t say hiding bribes, or thinking Republican’s have been in charge of Chicago the last 50 years.

  8. HonestAbe always blaming eveyone else. So who’s fault is it that your life sucks? I know it’s uncomfortable question. Grab a tissue, we’ll wait.

  9. You’ll be waiting a long, long time low I.Q. Troll Little Joey Snowflake.
In the meantime, I will be laughing my ass off and there’s NOTHING you can do about it so troll on.
    LET’S GO BRANDON!

  10. Sounds like they would have closed without Brandon

I don’t like Brandon either but if you start blaming him for everything “it’s raining it’s that damn brandon’s fault!” you end up sounding like an idiot and then when it comes time to criticize him for something he deserves it for people will have tuned you out.

The article says they were already losing millions of dollars every year and it’s gotten worse over the past 5 years. Why would Walmart keep a store like that open?

  11. Abe I thought Brandon was in Ireland with his crack smoking pedophile son. I guess Ashley didn’t want to go on this one

  12. The people stealing, shoplifting at the closed stores will just have to drive out to the suburbs now.

  13. 17 years and no profitability?

The Bd of Directors has been asleep at the switch, hurting their shareholders.

Did they consider the losses ‘negro taxes’ that must be paid?

But shoplifters aren’t the only ones to blame — black employees made off with a large share!

  14. Termanatrix, Thank you for your statistical and criminological assessment.

  15. And yet another installment of “Bitchin with Abe.” brought to you by Phillips Milk of Magnesia. Todays episode is titled. “I think I just shit my pants, not sure.”
