Dundee and Elgin Townships’ Republican Party Picnic

Last Sunday at Randall Oaks, the Republican Parties of Dundee and Elgin Townships hooked up to hold a picnic in which members, officials and guests could get to know each other better.

At the Dundee Township intake table sat Connie Cain and her husband Richard.

The food included fresh roasted sweet corn, grilled chicken, hot dogs and coleslaw.

I got the first ear of corn.

Delicious.

All in all, a good deal for $15.

Cliff Surges and the leader of Elgin Township Republicans, Nicole Dean.

Dundee Township’s Master of Ceremonies Cliff Surges introduced Dundee Townshp Republican Part Chairman Greg Buck, who almost was elected to the Kane County Board.

Surges argued he would have won if the Democrats did not have auch an overwhelming advantage in mail-in ballots.

Surges pointed out that Bach had not dropped out of politics, but now was Chairman of the Dundee Township Republican Party.

Greg Buck..

There was a fairly good crowd for a non-election year.

There were ice cold soft drinks.

Precinct Committeepersons were asked to raise their hands for recognition.

Among those in attendance was Kane County Coroner Rob Russell.

Elgin Library Board member Joy Simons was praised for having made the Library much more transparent in just two years.

Kent Mercado

After the speeches by party officials, Republican congressional candidate Dr. Kent Mercado spoke.

He characterized himself as a center right candidate hoping that he could pull some of the center left voterd away from incumbent Democrat Bill Foster.

Mercado is not only a physician, but an attorney.

He told me he had gotten along well with McHenry County Republican Party Chairman Jeff Thorsen.

Former congressional hopeful Anthony Catella was caught in this photo next to Cliff Sturges and Don DeWitte.

State Senator Don DeWitte was in attendance.

He said he was going to encourage Metea to start passenger service to Huntley as soon as a connection can be made between the Milwaukee and the Union Pacific lines in Elgin.

DeWitte said the money is available for the project.

DeLoris Doederlein

Finally, my treat for the day was getting back together with former State Rep. DeLoris Doerderlein.

When Mort Zwick convinced State Rep. Jill Zwick not to run for re-election and allow him to do so instead, Jack Schaffer and I joined in a letter recommending Doederlein’s election.

She won.

Jill told me later, “You guys really did a job on Mort.”

She did not seem disappointed.

On the way out, I ran into a guy wearing a “Kenyon” tee shirt.

Come to find out, it was 16th District Kane County Board member Michael Kenyon.
