I asked Algonquin School District 300 in a Freedom of Information request for the definitiion of “Administrative Leave,” the status of Donald Peters, arrested on dozens of child pornography counts.
As I suspected, the term is from the union contract with those employed by the district who are not teachers.
So, Donald Peters is still getting paid.
In the D300 press release on Peters, the following appears:
“Mr. Peters has been placed on administrative leave, effective July 18, 2023.”
Note that the word “paid” does not appear before the words “administrative leave.”
I asked after that line “Will he be being paid?“
The union contract says he will continue to be compensated.
His current hourly salary is $27.3221.

Paul, I thought the same thing. If a complaint is severe enough to warrant removal from service while an investigation is conducted I could see the union protecting it’s members by requiring them to be paid in the interim so they don’t lose their house or go hungry.
If it was the case that the complaint was invalid they would have lost pay for no good reason.
Or if the complaint was false or malicious it could be weaponized against them.
Sure, you could make them whole when they are reinstated but if you run into hardship during that time what is protecting you.
So I would really hope that there is a clause in there to recoup salary paid during administrative leave if an employee is terminated for just cause.
