Rockford Airport Succeeds in Spite of Prediction

From a 1997 article in the Chicago Sun-Times comes this pessimistic view of the furure of Rockford’s Airport, now called Chicago-Rockford Airport:

Expansion of Rockford Airport was ruled out by the FAA, according to this article.

But, in the late 1990’s United Parcel decided it wanted to use the airport as a hub.

Driving past after visiting the Byron Nuclear Plant, we saw UPS’ major investment.

And, there was more than one UPS plane.

And, that’s not all.

Amazon has a distribution center at the airport, too.

  1. This is freight only we’re talking about, in the case of Rockford.

The basic premise remains sound, though.

In O’Hare’s case, you have significant passenger patronage from far beyond 62.whatever miles, passing up their smaller nearby airports for O’Hare with more frequent direct connections to everywhere.

  2. Rockford also became a repair and maintenance hub as well.

It’s kind of like O’Hare’s pole barn out back.

  3. From the expert appraiser who’s an expert in poles but in his case they’re fleshy and fit in his mouth and sphincter.

Where’s that Capitol Police Chief book report troll boy?

  4. And there’s blumpkin boy Lil Joey Snowflake to add to the trolling. The climate changes really agitate IL trolls.

  5. Probably my all-time best flying experiences were out of Rockford.

Parking fee-free 50 ft from the Terminal Entrance, walking through security, grabbing TSA’r by head and farting, to check-in counter and telling gal “I got this” and printing my own boarding pass while ensuring on her terminal, no one was within 5 rows of my seat, boarding and asking Captain if I could pilot the takeoff.

I miss Rockford flights to Atl.
