WTVO-TV in Rockford reported the plane was a Boeing 777 capable of holding up to 388 passengers, and at least 8 charter buses, each with a 57-seat capacity, were seen on the airport’s tarmac.

“Earlier today, Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana, Winnebago County Board Chairman Joe Chiarelli, and City of Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara were alerted that a plane carrying migrants from Texas is scheduled to land at Chicago Rockford International Airport Saturday night.
Once the plane lands, those onboard will offload and immediately board buses to Chicago’s ‘landing zone.’ Those on the plane will not exit the airport property at any time before boarding the buses,” the statement continued…
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department escorted the buses to the McHenry County Line.

Do they still offer Free overnight Parking at Rockford Airport?
The rip off at O’Hare Parking is there are rarely ever any Economy Lots open during the day, because that Lot is now providing Employee Parking and the Expansion that would have brought more spaces is way behind–so folks end up paying 40 bucks a day at O’Hare, as they used to sometimes hand out cards you could use saying “Economy Parking was full ,please only charge him 15 dollars even if at the 40 dollar area—now,the folks who were handing out reduced parking cards seemed to have dissapeared.
God help the poor family on a 2 week vacation having to cough up 40×14 for parking at the vacations conclusion.
So if anyone knows if Rockford is still Free overnight Parking you may save folks a whole lot of money.
Not only was it free, but you’d park and walk like 50 ft to Airport Entrance.

No parking is not free.
They have two hour free parking for drop off and pick up.
They have cell phone lots.
They USED to offer free parking but now the airport has gotten much more popular and the parking is gated and charged.

Allegiant Air Is the main carrier out of Rockford.
I’ve flown from there many times.
They fly to Las Vegas, which is a huge draw from Chicago people closer to OHare trying to avoiding the OHare hassle.
Limited flights and they fill up fast.
I’ve flown to Vegas, Phoenix and Florida.
Much easier than OHare.
No airport user fee tacked on vehicle rental at Rockford but watch that change.
BTW Mitchell in Milwaukee was our go to for most flights.
Great parking and cheap.
Shuttle runs every 15 minutes.
PLUS if you have a dead battery or flat, the airport authority changes tires for free.

I agree on Mitchell which has always been my go to airport.
If you know how and where to park you are literally in the terminal in under 3m after parking and unloading.
I can afford the 15/day charge for such a convenience.
I miss the good old days of Midwest Express though.
