McHenry County College (MCC) students plan to increase awareness of human trafficking with “Shine a Light on Human Trafficking,” an informative forum from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26 in the Luecht Conference Center at the college, located at 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14 in Crystal Lake.

The forum is sponsored by the Human Trafficking Freedom Coalition and the McHenry County College Generation End It student group.

Keynote speaker is Chicago Detective Al Krok, who has over 11 years of experience working with the FBI on Chicago Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) investigations.

Forum participants will learn the true definition of human trafficking and the common misconceptions surrounding that issue.

The global and local impact of human trafficking will be addressed and parents will hear how to protect their children from being lured into trafficking.

In  addition, the current local efforts underway to restore the lives of victims will be featured.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Nancy Allen at nallenhtfc@gmail.com.

  1. Human trafficking and people employed by school districts having sexual misconduct with minors happens more than most people realize, and it happens in the suburbs too.

No doubt the Chicago detective has some eye opening stories.

  2. Mark I agree with you, the school districts are right in there to exploit children.

Parents, watch and listen to your children, learn and listen to the conversations that are going on in schools.

  3. School districts are not right in there to exploit children.

Misconduct occurs not because school districts want the misconduct to occur, rather for a wide variety of reasons.

It’s something to be aware of.

  4. Mark, the school districts are there to protect the teachers, right along with the UNION, there is no one there to protect the children.

  5. Laila Mikelwait is an advocate to bring awareness to human trafficking.

There are plenty of people in school districts that provide lots of help to students.

There are also plenty of problems with the status quo.

We have discussed many of those problems on the blog.

But there are plenty of good people working in schools.

Every district, school, department, class, teacher is unique.

They each have their own set of rules and culture.
