The Steve Stanek Challenge

It’s to McHenry County College trustees from McHenry’s Steve Stanek and came via email:

Cal, I think I have the solution to the entire McHenry County College fitness complex/baseball stadium funding problem.

Every MCC trustee should sign an agreement with the college that says if, in any year, stadium revenues fall short of the amount needed to fully pay that year’s debt obligation, the trustees will personally make up the difference. That difference would be divided equally among each of the trustees.

The trustees would also have to purchase a surety bond to guarantee payment in the event that revenues in any year fall short.

In this way the stadium could be built without any of the financial risk falling on taxpayers.

Do you think MCC trustees are confident enough to do this?

I think we should ask them.

This solution does not address the terrible precedent of the college building a minor league baseball stadium instead of using those millions of dollars for education, but that’s another issue.

Somehow I don’t think they could find an insurance company to sell them the bonds, which, I assume, Stanek thinks should be financed out the trustees’ pockets.
