Woodstock Copper Thief Gets Ten Years

RESIDENTIAL BURGLAR BRETT ROBERTS SENTENCED TO TEN YEARS IN THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS

Louis A. Bianchi, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announces that thirty-seven year-old Brett Roberts, formerly of Harvard, was sentenced to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the class 1 felony offense of Residential Burglary following a sentencing hearing.

On May 11, 2010, police were called to the site of an unoccupied home in the 2400 Block of Queen Anne Road in Woodstock by a real-estate agent who had just surprised a group of intruders.

The Defendant was arrested after his fingerprints were lifted from disjoined copper plumbing (which had been targeted for theft) found in the basement.

The Defendant possesses a lengthy criminal history, including prior convictions for burglary and forgery.

This case was investigated by Detective Tom Jonites of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department and prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Michael Combs and Patrick Kenneally.
