County Board Members’ Compensation — 26 Comments

  1. According to my prodigious research, Jack D. Franks is a Democrat. Stay tuned…198 days…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock…

  2. Why are taxpayers funding cal’s big pension? He makes more for breathing than most of the local government employees that he so hatefully lists each day he breaths.

I also believe that he continues to use donors money that he placed into his political war chest for his own expenses and retirement funds. He is a sick little public funds thief.

  3. Is it true that Mike Walkup sold every thing and now lives in MN?

  4. $1,000,000 plus to pay just the County Board, exclusive of all of the high priced elected officials, administrators and department heads!

School Board members get paid $ZERO!!

School Administrators work week nights and Saturdays…..something is terribly wrong with this scenario!

  5. Keep up the great work Cal, you provide information that is out of touch for most of us commoners!

  6. I must disagree with my friend Tom. My sunshine blogger may be a sick public funds thief; but never little. I consider him a giant. Stay tuned…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock…

  7. Why are we, the taxpayers, funding Cal’s extremely expensive health insurance and pension???

    That’s what you meant, right?

  8. $104,000.00 for Jack Franks to screw up the county? Hey voters-proud of yourselves still for that vote ??

  9. Why is YOU PAY FOR THIS GUY’S HEALTH INSURANCE in all caps.

Are you inferring that no one could know that?

Are you inferring few know that?

All caps is shouting for those under 45, I wonder why it is popular for those over?

Does it seem to make some special significance?

  10. A shout from my sunshine blogger is music to my ears…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, meow, meeeeeoooooowwwwwww…

  11. Maybe when he takes his legislative pension, he will stop taking county health benefits.

  12. As I campaigned in 2013, the Gravy Train. Full time benefits for less than a part time job.

I am just glad McHenry County is a Republican County with conservative values, otherwise it would be a real spendthrift County….

    Keep telling the big lie.

  13. I am a county employee.

I have never met Mr. Skinner but I do have a question for him.

Why are you posting our salaries when the public can look them up on their own? Why are these numbers so inflated?

Oh, I forgot – you included benefits and pensions.

Why don’t you just take a look at our take home salaries?

Why are you hating on us hard working employees?

I barely and I mean BARELY make enough to pay my bills.

And there are many other employees in my situation!!

Do you have any idea how many problems that you have caused us by inflating the truth?

Creditors, ex-spouses, etc. are coming after us for ‘lying’ about our income. Thanks!

Why don’t you post your compensation – including all your ‘benefits’?

  14. That is fair criticism.

Added later: Fair criticism has been levied that these figures include not only salaries, but fringe benefits.

The headline should have been “McHenry County Eemployee Compensation.”

The figures include not only salary, but also health benefits, vacation and sick pay, plus uniform allowance.

  15. Happy to see that mike skala will be able to afford to eat without having to go to the food service he owns and that he has enough taxpayer paid insurance.

Being a millionaire I am sure he donates most of his profits to the less fortunate.

    YEAH RIGHT!

  16. Sunshine blogger, again I disagree. This is not fair criticism and is not right. This attempt of clarification about salaries and compensation goes against the core and main purpose of this sunshine blog; irresponsible reporting, gross political charlatanry and extreme bigotry and racial hatred. Ignore the criticism and keep this sunshine blog great forever. Stay tuned…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock…

  17. Want to save money? Pass a constitutional amendment that eliminates the 3% COLA for taxpayer queens like Cal, and then pass another amendment to strip pensions from elected officials like Cal, then pass a constitutional amendment to ban healthcare for elected officials, like Cal…. BOOM. Everything that Cal critisized Franks for in this post will be removed. /s #GOPHypocrite

inb4: “Cal says I was a FULL time employee.”

  18. Interesting. I never saw my sunshine blogger as a queen until today. Should we call him our “sunshine queen blogger?” In any case, I’ll take any of those constitutional amendment; as long as this sunshine blog is never banned. Stay tuned…tic, tock, tic, tock, meow, meeeeeoooooowwwwwww…

  19. Have to agree with a commenter who wants to abolish automatic 3 percent increases in pension payments for government retired employees including teachers, school administrators and other government former employees. Pensions in the private sector are becoming rare. Automatic 3 percent increases in private sector pensions are not done.

Government pensioners, teachers/administrators and others are shamelessly living off the backs of taxpayers including those who have no pensions or who do not have annual 3 percent increase in pension amounts. These people are scum living off the backs of taxpayers who are victims of the well to do government workers.

  20. Yes the salaries, benefit breakouts, the paid holidays and sick days are all listed on the County website.
    Try to find them.

Go to the County Website / navigate your way to the page for Human Resources (try it sometime) / scroll down to the bottom of the main page for Human Resources and you will see a link called: “IMRF Salary Report 2017-18” Why is it not called “public sector dairy”?

This is the Peter Austin and the County Board version of open and transparent government?

Cal is existing on his public sector pension but at least we get something in return while people like John Jung, Mike Skala, Jack Franks and others just suck on the “public teat” .

For McConchie, Reick, Barb Wheeler, Skillicorn, Althoff, McConnaughay and McSweeney:
Where is the Legislation supporting a referendum to put an end to the ‘sucking’?

Oh, that’s right, Township elimination is more important.

That way we can speed up the increase in the size of the Frankenstein empire!!!

    Sheer genious!

  21. Dear sunshine political science and sociology professor: The question from my friend Tom is a hard one. You need to change the subject immediately and revert back to parroting one of your favorite Fox News talking points about the Democrats being the real racists going back to the Civil War and all that. Then everything will be fine again. 197 days. Stay tuned…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, meow, meeeeeoooooowwwwwww…

  22. Rmc, it’s good to know what each employee/elected official costs the tapayers. It’s also good to see what county board members take far more than they give or who is on the board just for the benefits (Insurance) when maybe they don’t even need to be.

School Districs and State Pensions are the only thing we should be looking to tackle in order to lower taxes. Everything else can come into focus after we’ve solved the biggest most expensive problem for the taxpayers. WORK ON THAT!!! (and yes, I’m shouting and I don’t care that I’m shouting) And electing people that triple the cost of their elected office should not be re-elected. That’s a given.

  23. Yes. Pensions are the biggest problem for Illinois what with huge, huge pensions on retirement date but then the AUTOMATIC COLA giving 3 percent increase in pension payments year after year after year after year after year after year after year after year, etc until the death of the pensioner. That could be 30 to 40 years after their retirement. Do the math. Use Excel.

It is unsustainable and moronic. Taxpayers SHOULD NOT have to fund very, very, very, very, very lavish pension arrangements. This State of Illinois, because of extremely high pay to government workers including school administrators and teachers has plunged the State into a fiscal abyss. Illinois is fiscally the worst State of 50 due to government workers, including teachers and administrators, ridiculously high salary, benefits and pensions. They, and their union big bosses and mealy mouth school district boards and Democrat politicians are TOTALLY to blame for Illinois miserable fiscal condition.

  24. See a teacher? Thank a teacher! Stay tuned…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, meow, meeeeeoooooowwwwwww…
