“During my tenure as Village President in Barrington Hills the village has lowered spending, lowering the tax levy for five years out of the past six totaling 24%, increased spending on infrastructure and have added significantly to our cash reserves.

“These are all things that government bodies can and should be doing including the State of Illinois.

“People are fleeing our state because high taxes and the untenable financial position our state is in.

“I believe that my background as a pension fund manager and Village President make me uniquely qualified to help get Illinois’ finances back in order,” said Martin McLaughlin.

“I am happy to accept the baton from our current Representative, David McSweeney, who has done an outstanding job of representing his constituents and calling our attention to the excesses in Springfield taxing and spending.

“I will work to build a coalition of legislators in Springfield who agree that we need to address these issues now and begin to reign in the spending and taxes that have brought us to this crossroads.

“I want to be there in Springfield to let my colleagues know which path will lead to fiscal sanity,” said McLaughlin.

“My decision to run does not come lightly.

“I am running because I have the support of my family and friends as well an overwhelming number of current and former elected officials across the 52nd District.

“I will need to work with every one of these individuals in order to make the impact that I need to effect change. During the course of this campaign

“I will present my views to the voters who will make the ultimate decision in the coming campaign,” said McLaughlin.

McLaughlin has been married to his wife, Kathleen, for 28 years.

They met in high school at Elgin Academy, where Martin attended on scholarship.

He then went on to work his way through college, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Illinois Wesleyan University.

He and his wife are blessed with 5 daughters, ages 26 through 13.

  1. I heard Mark Kownick, mayor of Cary is running also.

He would be a great addition.

  2. DocB are you nuts? Kownick would be awful. He’s an awful self-serving Jack Franks endorsing Mayor! He’s a joke!

We’re with Martin all the way. He was an excellent village President for Barrington Hills and he is a statesman.
