Breaking the Law

Steve Moore’s Unleash Prosperity Hotline #839 has this photo, plus the accompanying commentary:

“Here’s Bill Maher of HBO echoing what we’ve warned about since the unconscionable and unconstitutional COVID ’emergency’ lockdowns. Mark our words: it’s coming.”

“If you allow government to break for an ’emergency,’ they will create ’emergencie’ to break the law.”

“Gee, we wonder what that crisis will be. Oh, yes, climate change, of course.”

Above this post is a critique of those who say the Maii fire was caused by climate change.

Climate Change Craziness – Not Climate Change – Caused Hawaii Fires

In keeping with the left doctrine that a crisis is a terrible thing to waste, the New York Times shamelessly blamed the wildfires in Hawaii that killed more than 80 people and cost tens of billions of dollars in property losses on climate change.

This is fake news.

There were many contributing factors to the fire, but a big one was the left’s obsession with “green energy” which created the tinder box. We’ve tracked these revelations from major news stories:

  • “Four years ago, the utility said it needed to do more to prevent its power lines from emitting sparks. It made little progress, focusing on a shift to clean energy… Between 2019 and 2022, it invested less than $245,000 on wildfire-specific projects on the island, regulatory filings show.”  Source: WSJ 8/17/23
  • “In a funding request last year, Hawaiian Electric asked the state Public Utilities Commission to allow it to spend $189 million on climate resiliency efforts over the next five years, including to protect against wildfires and downed power lines. ‘The risk of a utility system causing a wildfire ignition is significant,’ the company’s application stated, citing the PG&E situation.” Source: CNN 8/14/23
  • “After the 2019 wildfire season, Hawaiian Electric even commissioned a report, which concluded that the utility should do far more to prevent its power lines from setting invasive grasses on fire. Since that report less than $245,000 was spent on wildfire projects.  Instead, the utility spent millions trying to meet a 2015 mandate created by Democrats that would require 100% of the utility’s electricity to come from renewable sources by 2045.”  Source: Washington Examiner 8/18/23

The bottom line: instead of spending millions of dollars on fire prevention as the experts recommended, the Public Utility Commission spent that money and more on complying with an absurd state law that “by 2045 the state will be 100 percent renewable energy.”

  1. There has been talk that a woke native bureaucrat held back water resources for fighting the fires.

    Were there “resources” to let?

Back in the 90’s, we did a bareboat sail charter out of St. Thomas, USVI.

Compared to our top stories in Chicago, every other story down there in the news was water.

Fresh water was a hot commodity, as you either had to catch it for yourself, or within the city, pay for what they bought and shipped in.

The guy who ran the outfit was living in any of their boats remaining at dock, as he had lost his home in a fire the previous week.

In the course of discussion, we found out that the city fire hydrants, even into the hills, used pumped sea water from the harbor basin.

Not ideal, but it’s available in quantity.

Does anyone know if they do this in Hawaii?

  2. Perhaps Norm Vinton should resign. I think so.
He was dropped before at private firm, but why?

He doesn’t engender confidence in anything he does.

    Simple math baffles him.

He said Roman numeral “V” stood for 500.

He also said Illinois trial courts can disregard an IL appellate court decision if they are in a different appellate district. That’s wrong, Norm.

    Norm please resign.

  3. Seriously Dems, if you’re going to trot out this Biden cadaver on national TV and if you’re going to let him off-script some idiot lying anecdotes, about his close relationship to deceased Senator Inouye, first train your old monkey to pronounce his name correctly.

  4. Bill Maher is feed up with supporting Lefty BS.

Hopefully the Banyan tree recovers completely!

  5. Yeah, It’s time to cut Avelar, he’s the only one that offers facts and political discussion. The rest of the morons only bitch and complain.

    Great blog Cal.

    This is fun.

  6. LOFL. Avelat offers FACTS? If he did Porkboy why the need to block comments? His FACTS are questionable on some points. He doesn’t want anyone to disrupt his echo chamber.

    Go play with your gerbil.

  7. Don’t use logic and truth Dingo. You’ll confuse the trolls. #DumpAvelar #AvelarNeedsaDiet

  8. If you listen to Maher expecting to hear conservative talking points and a guy who is not crude, you’re listening to the wrong show, bred winner.

Appreciate him for what he is: He’s a consistent liberal Democrat who calls out the kooky activist base of his own party who have made his party unrecognizable compared to what it was just a few years ago.

He’s almost certainly not going to vote Republican, but he might make some voters think twice about supporting Democrats.

Given how badly Republicans in Illinois get whupped, they should probably be grateful for people like Maher.
