From the Coroner:
McHenry County Coroner, Dr. Michael Rein, announced that his office was contacted by MIAT (Major Investigation Assistance Team) at around 8:00 am on November 21, 2023, to investigate the death of Sean Grendel, age 51, of McHenry.
Mr. Grendel was found unresponsive in his cell at the McHenry County Corrections facility.
He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
An autopsy will be performed in the afternoon of November 22, 2023.
All preliminary findings and toxicology will be considered pending and under investigation following the autopsy.
The Coronerโs Office will continue to work collaboratively with MIAT,
McHenry County Corrections and McHenry County Sheriffโs Office during this investigation.
