Mike Shorten on County Tax Levy Hike

From McHenry County Board member Mike Shorten:

McHenry County Board Member Advocates for Responsible Taxation and Enhanced Services

McHenry County, 11/21/2023 — “At tonight’s McHenry County Board Meeting, I voted for a flat Property Tax Levy and Budget that would have increased funding for senior services and mental health services in the county.

“This amended budget would have maintained a healthy balance sheet without increasing the property tax burden on our already overtaxed residents.

“The McHenry County government is facing many financial challenges, such as skyrocketing inflation and unfunded mandates from Springfield.

“The Safe-T-Act, which prioritizes accused criminals over victims, has added more than $2 million to the budget this year alone.

“However, we also have some positive factors that offset these challenges.

“I commend McHenry County’s Treasurer, Donna Kurtz, and her team for their aggressive investment strategy that mitigates some of the inflationary pressures.

“Moreover, revenues from cannabis taxes are projected to increase 120% in 2024, thanks to new businesses opening across the county.

“In addition to supporting a flat levy,

“I also voted to allocate an additional $525,000 for mental health services and $355,000 for senior services, providing more support in these important areas.

“While I was initially hesitant to support an increase in mental health funding, after reviewing data provided to me by members of the mental health board as well as listening to feedback from my constituents, I made the decision to support a reasonable increase that wouldn’t have negatively impact property taxes, had the amended levy passed as well.

“While the flat levy failed, I will continue to remain vigilant to ensure that McHenry County continues to provide the quality, responsive services that our residents expect in a responsible, cost-effective manner.”

  1. Shorten won’t call out his rodent
    Colleagues.

His flat levy program failed because he doesn’t have the foggiest idea as to how to mobilize pressure on his fellow RINOs. His halfhearted ‘efforts’ are laughable.

Gottemoller ought to he tarred and feathered on Woodstock square. Third degree burns caused by the boiling tar would be well deserved.

Why Shorty Shorten would extol cannabis taxes is beyond me.

He’s a bloody failure. As is Boo Boo Buehler, the lgbtq flag raiser.

  2. LOL. Here’s a great guy IL liberals agree with.

Trolls love a guy like this.

  3. That’s out of line Dobie.

I disagree with Joe on a lot but this hyperbolic stuff has no room in the public discourse of McHenry County.

I’m actually mortified that crap like this is thought to be acceptable – it’s not.

  4. Earth to gasbag: what the hell are you squawking about now from far off Alabama?

Gasbag, try and make sense; you’re not dealing with loser USAF nymphs.

    Are you on coke?

  5. Responsible and respectable McHenry County residents would prefer to stay on topic, and carefully ascertain if “increased funding for senior services and mental health services in the county” actually improves the quality of lives of senior citizens and persons with troubled minds due to dysfunctional families, schools, places of employment and/or communities, etc.; or, whether well-intentioned public funding of apparently worthy causes, ends up feeding habitual grifters, rather than solving the underlying problems.

It’s long past time to fumigate and eradicate the internet trolling, flaming, s***posting and smack talk from McHenry County.

Perhaps 4Chan denizens might be mildly amused and enjoy smoking lulz, but I am not.

It is not necessary to abuse Mr. Gasser, nor any other McHenry Countian.

Crass behavior that found its way here out of Irish and Sicilian neighborhoods, etc., of immigrant Chicago and Cicero, and what rhetoric has been scooped out of putrid internet caves, needs to be uprooted, so that the old, pleasant, civil McHenry County ways of civil discourse, can be recovered

Unlike persons commenting on this blog, who are abusing citizens and residents of McHenry County for cheap thrills, I do not hide behind an anonymous pseudonym.

Whatever your political or personal disagreements might be, neither Mr. Gasser nor Mr. Gottemoller deserve to be abused, nor anyone else.

Please learn to use the useful skills of healthy argumentation, not ad hominem or ad mulierum attacks.

I lived in Iowa for a time, and came to appreciate the value of the statewide cultural custom of “Iowa nice”, and the mental health benefits & freedom of living on the other side of the Mississippi River from Chicago gangster-talk cultural influences.

  6. I don’t know whether to admire the total shamelessness of the Science Lady’s anti-Irish/Catholic rants or just vomit.

But anyway, “Top o’ the marnin’ to ye, ye gobshite”…..

  7. This from the “fiscal conservative.” Laughable. An illiterate when it comes to government policy thus caving. I won’t say I told you so, but you got what you voted for.

  8. There’s something wrong with Dawn. Seriously wrong.

Gasser should shut his puss and go on a diet.

Shorten is what I would call a wimp, perhaps a simp.

Why is the lawyer Gottemoller above any criticism, Gasser? Please explain that to me if you can or dare.

Gottemoller has many shady things in his past.
Start with the ‘kybo’ case. And his phony deals with antennaes.

His recent vote on the tax hike is right there, in your face, yet Gasser somehow ‘forgets’ that.

    Sad.

Gasser, fade out please. You can’t move away and still keep trolling here about things you know little to nothing about.
