Recent Lakewood Drone Use

Lakewood purchased a drone in early August.

Lakewood’s top-of-the-line drone.

I find this new tool to be interesting, so I asked the Police Department to let me know how it has been used.

Pilot Sgt. Sean McGrath provided the following information:

  • On 10-22-2023, Drone requested by CLPD to help check the area of Randall/Ackman for missing suicidal subject-Subject located at Hospital
  • On 10-24-2023 Drone deployed to look for missing child with Autism in Lakewood-Subject located by citizen in the area
  • On 11-05-2023 Drone requested by CLPD to search for missing teen who had been drinking. Subj located three miles away by concerned resident who called police.
  • On 11/12/2023, drone deployed to check the area for a possible stolen vehicle reported in the area of Rte 47/Rte 176. Unable to locate.

  1. This should cut down the number of plump, middle aged Public Sector workers, buying remote controlled big trucks and model plane toys, reliving their childhood through their kids.

  2. Do other PDs (i.e. CLPD two times) reimburse Lakewood for use of the drone?

  3. So far, the drones are at ZERO percent success.

Perhaps they should trade it in on nice shiny new Bell JetRanger.

    Yeah, that’s the ticket!

  4. Shake, would assume so. Departments share a lot of resources, as you have other Departments with K-9 units, dive units, firing ranges…..

Same with Fire Departments/paramedics moving around on the board covering each other’s Districts.

I would have to assume that they do account for this in some way.

  5. Probabnly just being a good neighbor.

How long do you think it will take for Crystal Lake to buy one?

  6. Reminds me of the old Hollies song, “Look through any Window yeah, what do you see”?.

Thats generally what comes next with these supposedly do gooder spying apparatus.

Look for lost old people, kids and dogs, then eventually get to peeping.

Kind of like what the Biden WH is doing in snooping on folks phone calls.

  7. Maybe they can use it to look for the money to pay for the new golf club.

  8. Poor abe, his mangina is bleeding again. Maybe the drone can help find your spine?

  9. I wonder if you can FOIA video captured by the drone from its use?

  10. Buying aerial drones for play?

Most of these cops are themselves actual drones…. As in bee hives. Do nuthin’ drones!

  11. At least now they might find the person stealing the sand at the Golf Course in the Spring??

Don’t blame the cops because it could be worse, LA deploys helicopters to assist in Patrol.

Maybe we can get an AI Village manager and really cut costs?

These trustees seem to be clueless after being elected to cut costs and keep the Village out of the fast lane.

The question should also be asked if there was OT pay for all those deployments of the drone?

PS Cal, CLPD doesn’t need to buy a drone because they can use Lakewood’s as most of that PD are retired CLPD officers anyway.

  12. Maybe the drones will be permanently stationed to hover over Cal’s house
