Hoping to ride an abortion wave to Springfield, Democratic Party McHenry Township Assessor Mary Mahady is seeking legislative office again.
She is running in the district which Republican Steve Reick has represented since replacing Jack Franks in the Illinois House.when Franks ran successfully for County Board Chairman.
Mahady ran for McHenry County Clerk and Recorder last year, but was defeated by incumbent Joe Republican Joe Tirio.
She didn’t lose by a lot leaving me wondering why she didn’t make another mailing with the almost $16,000 she had available.
In 2018, Mahady challenged Republlican State Senator Craig Wilcox, losing by almost ten percentage points.
As McHenry Township’s twice-elected Assessor, Mahady has been working crowds in parades to gain (or maintain) visibilty.
As assessor, in 2022, she had a margin of error of 14.91%. That was higher than the county average of 13.49% and much higher than 8.42% in Grafton Township, the lowest in McHenry County.
[To explain what this means, let’s assume the margin of error for sales tax collections at a supermarker where the sales tax is 5%. Of three people buying $100 worth of groceries, the first would pay $4 in sales tax, the second $5–the correct amount–and the third $6. Grafton’s tax assessments are better than that, Mahady’s worse. The official name for assessments’ margin of error is “Coefficient of Error.”]
Reick did not file on the first day, not a new phenomenon.
Since AJ Freund’s murder by his parents in Crystal Lake, Reick has become the legislative expert in matters concerning the Department of Children and Family Services.
Reick advocates putting the protection of children under the control of county government so that local citizens can provide the watchdog over this government function which obviously is impossible when state government is in control.
{This approach worked well when foster kids were placed by the McHenry County Probation Department. In a budget cutting year, Governor Jim Thompson’s DCFS Director cut funding in favor of his own empire.]
The Democrats will obviously use Reick’s birthday DUI in Springfeld to avoid issue differences.
On the abortion issue, Reick is Pro-Life, based on his understanding of biology.

We “reform” DCFS by eliminating the causes behind the perceived need for it.
Eradicate the causes of stressed, unhealthy, financially impaired and/or uneducated mothers, or the loss of a mother.
There should be no need to take a child away from a mother, or otherwise impair the maternal relationship.
Mothers should be given all necessary tools, equipment and support to succeed at the role, and in life.
The underlying culture should be changed to produce high-quality mothers and maternal relationships, and successful families.
Changing the culture appropriately and effectively is the responsibility of We the People.
We must reform and improve our culture, first, so that DCFS becomes unnecessary.
You eliminate the need for formal government by taking pre-emptive and pro-active action to obviate the apparent need for it.
I can assure you that the culture of McHenry County needs to be changed and improved, because it facilitated and produced the problems in the first place.

do not leave mixed-sex teens and young adults together, unsupervised or unaccompanied by responsible, respected adults;

provide assistance to women and children to leave hostile and/or violent environments or environments where illicit or harmful drugs or alcohol or weapons are used or present, or situations of emotional, psychological or physical abuse;
provide real assistance to families or members of families who request help;
be there for your neighbors and community: care about your neighbors and inquire how they are doing from time-to-time, checking in occasionally to see if everything is going okay, and make offers of assistance if help is ever needed;
do not be so independent of your neighbors and community such that you are merely a resident who leaves all social obligations up to other neighbors and municipal, township, school staff, park staff, county, state and federal government;
engage with neighbors and create opportunities to car for each other and look after one another’s well-being, so that families and individuals do not feel and are not socially isolated and lonely or overburdened or stressed out without neighborhood and community connections;
support the construction of and build community recreation and cultural facilities,
and,
care, or see to it that care and sustenance provisions are provided to elderly, ill or injured persons, and persons with disabilities or who are in need of surgeries or physical rehabilitation.
Stop the culture of disrespect towards girls and women, sensitive or shy or quiet or endomorphic boys and men who do not fit a ‘masculine’ or ‘macho’ stereotype, and persons with injuries or disabilities.
Help men and boys, too; not just women & girls.
