Crystal Lake Apartment Fire

From the Crystal Lake Fire/Rescue Department:

Structure Fire – 651 S. Virginia Rd.

Crystal Lake, IL – The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded to an outside smoke investigation at 10:14AM at 651 S. Virginia Rd.

651 S. Virginia Road, Crystal Lake.

The first fire unit arrived on scene in under 5 minutes and reported smoke and fire on the balcony of a third floor apartment of a 24 unit apartment building.

The first ambulance and engine on the scene began making sure all occupants were out of all of the apartments while simultaneously beginning extinguishment from the outside of the structure.

There was an uninjured occupant in the fire apartment that crews assisted out of the building.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire in an expedient manner and stopped the fire from spreading to the attic.

The apartment is deemed uninhabitable.

A request for additional fire crews was made through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System where several
area departments responded to assist Crystal Lake.

Crews were on scene for approximately 3 hours.

The single apartment sustained heat, smoke, and water damage.

The two occupants of the damaged apartment are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

The apartment building has a main power of electricity and Com-Ed was called to the scene to secure the fire unit only.

The fire remains under investigation. Estimated loss to the property is $20,000.

There were no injuries to any firefighters or civilians.
