It wasn’t the Secret Service or the FBI who arrested a McHenry Huntington Bank robber yesterday.
It was the McHenry Police Department:

MCHENRY POLICE ARREST ADULT MALE IN CONNECTION WITH BANK ROBBERY
John Birk, Chief of Police of the McHenry Police Department, announced today the arrest of a subject in connection with a robbery that occurred at Huntington Bank, 5555 W. Bull Valley Road.
PETER A. SOVA (age 36, DOB: 09/03/1987) of [800 block of] Ross Lane, Unit B, McHenry, Illinois, was
taken into custody without incident by the McHenry Police Department near the scene.
On Monday, May 6th, 2024, at approximately 10:44 A.M., the McHenry Police Department
responded to Huntington Bank for a reported armed robbery.
The investigation determined Sova entered the bank and passed a note to a teller demanding currency while brandishing what the teller believed to be a handgun.
After receiving the currency, Sova fled the bank on foot.
Shortly after receiving the report of the robbery, officers of the McHenry Police Department located
Sova in the area, specifically a field on the property of The Church of Holy Apostles, 5211 W. Bull
Valley Road, McHenry.
While investigating this incident, officers learned Sova allegedly left his nine-month-old child home alone.
Officers responded to Sova’s residence to check the welfare of the child and took him into protective custody. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services was notified, and the child was released to the custody of his mother.
SOVA was charged with:
- 1 Count of AGGRAVATED ROBBERY – Class 1 Felony
- 1 Count of THEFT – OVER $500 – Class 3 Felony
- 1 Count of CHILD ABANDONMENT – Class 4 Felon
Sova was transported to the McHenry County Jail in Woodstock, Illinois, to await court
proceedings.

IMO I don’t approve of this conduct however this may have been an act of desperation trying to provide for his child with no income, losing his residence and other factors to consider.
The Teller ‘believes’ it was a handgun and shows doubt.
It’ll be an interesting case where jurors can perhaps relate.
